Ambassador of Guinea to the United States: Who Is Kerfalla Yansan? [News - AllGov]

Kerfalla Yansan became the 21st ambassador of Guinea to the United States at the beginning of 2018. Appointed on November 24, 2017, he presented his credentials to President Donald Trump on January 24, 2018. Guinea was the first country in Francophone sub-Saharan Africa to establish diplomatic relations with the U.S., following its independence from France in October 1958. He succeeds Mamady Cond, who served in Washington from 2015 to 2018.

Born in 1942 in Conakry what was then French Guinea, Kerfalla Yansan earned a State Doctorate (PhD) from University of Paris-Sorbonne, Faculty of Economics and Law, and a Diploma of Finance from the Institute of Political Sciences of Paris.

A lawyer by training, Yansan started his career not in his native Guinea, but in neighboring Senegal, as a law professor at University of Dakar (since 1987, Cheikh Anta Diop University), which was the largest and most prestigious university in French West Africa.

Despite his legal background, most of Yansans government experience has been with economics and finance. He served as governor of the Central Bank of Guinea from 1986 to 1996.

In the late 1990s and early 2000s, Yansan was a development consultant with a number of institutions, including the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, the UNDP Regional Bureau for Africa, the NEPAD Secretariat, the African Development Bank, and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa.

Yansan served as minister of economy and finance from February 2010 to December 2013. Serving President Skouba Konates Transition Government at first, he retained the post after elections in 2010 resulted in a win for Alpha Cond. As minister, Yansan carried out negotiations with the International Monetary Fund regarding Guineas debt that led to economic reforms allowing the country to carry out a program of debt relief. Those efforts led African Banker magazine to name him as African finance minister of the year in May 2012.

Nevertheless, that same year, Yansane was accused of signing a secret $25 million loan agreement with Palladino Capital, owned by Walter Hennig of South Africa, allowing Palladino to take ownership of a 30 percent share of the country's official mine holdings in the event of default. Yansane disputed the facts, but announced on June 21, 2012, the repayment of the loan in full.

After a cabinet reshuffle in January 2014, Yansan became minister of mines and geology, where he oversaw his specialty: contracts for oil exploration. One of the companies he dealt with Hyperdynamics of Ho...

GUTLESS WONDERS, PROTESTING WHEN IT'S TOO LATE No More Mister Nice Blog

Forgive me if I'm not impressed by celebrities affiliated with the entertainment side of Fox who are now criticizing Fox News:

Steve Levitan, the creator of Modern Family, which airs on ABC but is produced by Foxs television studio, wrote on Twitter on Tuesday that he was disgusted to work at a company that has anything whatsoever to do with @FoxNews. The film director Paul Feig echoed those sentiments, writing that he had made two films for the 20th Century Fox movie studio but cannot condone the support their news division promotes toward the immoral and abusive policies and actions taken by this current administration toward immigrant children.

Those tweets came several days after Seth MacFarlane, the creator of Family Guy, said he was embarrassed to work at 21st Century Fox after the Fox News host Tucker Carlson told viewers not to trust other news networks.
Nice of you to speak up, guys, but it's a lot safer for you to do this now than it was when you signed your deals:
Both The Walt Disney Company and Comcast are bidding tens of billions of dollars for control of most of the entertainment assets owned by Rupert Murdoch. Fox News would not be part of either sale, and would remain under Murdoch control.

But with the Fox entertainment empire on the brink of being severed from the Murdochs, there appeared to be a newfound willingness to take on Fox News....
So now you have the courage to say something. Why didn't you say anything when Fox became a welcoming place for birthers, including Donald Trump? Or when Fox's Glenn Beck was calling President Obama a "racist" with a "deep-seated hatred for white people"? Or when Bill O'Reilly said that the slaves who built the White House were "well fed and had decent lodgings"? Or when Megyn Kelly produced...

Surrogacy, Feminism, and Capitalism bensozia

To get back to one of my regular themes, Ross Douthat has a column today pointing out that when it comes to surrogate motherhood, American feminists have mostly abandoned the anti-capitalist position they started from and embraced the marketplace:

You can tell a number of stories about why this happened. Defending the legal logic of abortion rights my body, my choice pushed feminism in a libertarian direction. The benefits of in vitro fertilization made a lively trade in eggs and embryos seem desirable or at least inevitable. . . .

But perhaps the simplest way to describe what happened with the surrogacy debate is that American feminists gradually went along with the logic of capitalism rather than resisting it. This is a particularly useful description because its happened so consistently across the last few decades: Whenever theres a dispute within feminism about a particular social change or technological possibility, you should bet on the side that takes a more consumerist view of human flourishing, a more market-oriented view of what it means to defend the rights and happiness of women.
The old radicalism of the left has all but disappeared in America. This is partly for the perfectly sensible reason that with state socialism exposed as boring, bureaucratic, and potentially tyrannous, nobody has come up with an alternative to mixed-market capitalism as a way of organizing society. But the idea that certain things ought to be protected from the marketplace because commercialism would taint them is all but dead. Environmentalists have mostly embraced having billionaires buy sensitive environmental areas to protect them, something that would have horrified earlier generations of activists. Feminists have given up thinking that feminism ought to offer an alternative view of what matters in life, and instead fight to make corporations pay women as much as men. The real energy on the left comes from yet more radical ideas about freedom the freedom to cast aside the billion-year-old straightjacket of sex and remake our bodies to suit our inner selves, and now perhaps the freedom to disregard borders and live wherever our children will best thrive.

I am ambivalent about surrogate motherhood as about so much else. Having children pregnancy, birth, holding babies, raising toddlers was by far the most powerful and beautiful experience of my life. The very idea that it should be curtailed so that people can better get ahead with their careers irks me, and the prospect of the police showing up to take a newborn infant from its mother because she signed a contract with the genetic parents disgusts me. (Yes, that has happened.) But I know that not everyone is as lucky in health, romance, economics and so on as I have been, and as always I am loathe to tell other people what they cannot do.

Democrats Reject Bill to Keep Families Together at Border Schumer Says He Wants to Keep Focus on Trump The Gateway Pundit

Democrats on Tuesday rejected a bill that would keep illegal immigrant families together on the border.

Senate Democratic Leader Charles Schumer (N.Y.) on Tuesday dismissed a legislative proposal backed by Republican leaders to keep immigrant families together.

Homeland Security officials say there have been 148 cases where someone fraudulently posed as a family member of children at the U.S. border from October to April.

Democratic Megadonor Haim Saban Attacks Senators for Urging Humanitarian Aid to Gaza Strip The Intercept

Television mogul and Democratic Party megadonor Haim Saban is privately reprimanding lawmakers who spoke out about the humanitarian crisis in Gaza Strip. Saban emailed the senators, some at their personal addresses, to directly express his displeasure with a letter organized last month by Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt.

Twelve Democrats and Sanders signed the May 11, 2018, letter calling for Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to act urgently in order to help relieve the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip. The letter, which came amid a deadly Israeli response to a protest movement in the Gaza Strip, said that the Trump administration should restore funding to a United Nations humanitarian effort and encourage Israel to ease restrictions on Palestinians living in Gaza. Three days after the senators sent the letter, Israel fired on another round of protests, leaving dozens dead and hundreds more wounded.

On Tuesday, The Intercept obtained a copy of an email Saban sent to six of the senators, along with a handful of staffers for others, expressing his dismay that they signed.

Do your homework, unless you have chosen to blindly follow Senator Sanders ill advised, misinformed, simplistic, and ignorant lead.

Senators, for you to listen to Senator Sanders and accuse Israel of being the main culprit is outrageous, misinformed, offensive and shows a lack of understanding of the regions basic fundamentals, Saban wrote. Do your homework, unless you have chosen to blindly follow Senator Sanders ill advised, misinformed, simplistic, and ignorant lead.

Sabans email mostly addresses the Gaza protests and Israels deadly response. He organized his missive as a fact check, using bold, underlined text in all capital letters to enumerate various pro-Israel talking points about the Gaza crisis. But his cold, hard facts frequently had nothing to do with anything in the letter or remarks made by any of the senators on the crisis.

Frank Lloyd Wright, Darwin Martin House, Buffalo, New York bensozia

The Martin House is a masterpiece of Wright's Prairie Style, which he developed while he worked in Chicago from the 1890s to 1914. The original design was completed in 1903 and the house was built in 1904 to 1905.

Darwin Martin was an executive for Larkin Soap, and he learned about Wright through his Chicago-dwelling brother William. As soon as he set eyes on the house Wright designed for his brother in Oak Park he decided that he must have his own Wright house.

Darwin Martin lived in Buffalo. What he wanted from Wright was not just a house, but a whole complex of buildings, including a separate house for his sister and brother-in-law; according to some writers he grew up lonely and what he most wanted in adulthood was to have his friends and family close. Hence the huge house with lots of room for guests.

The Rich and the Poor bensozia

Gustave Flaubert, extract from a letter to George Sand, October 7, 1871 (five months after the suppression of the Paris Commune):

Poor John Kelly bensozia

Politico reports that being Trump's Chief of Staff is not turning out how he hoped:

Kellys status in the White House has changed in recent months, and he and the president are now seen as barely tolerating one another. According to four people close to Kelly, the former Marine general has largely yielded his role as the enforcer in the West Wing as his relationship with Trump has soured. While Kelly himself once believed he stood between Trump and chaos, he has told at least one person close to him that he may as well let the president do what he wants, even if it leads to impeachment at least this chapter of American history would come to a close.

In recent months, his Secret Service detail has often been spotted standing outside the gym in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building in the middle of the day and White House officials who pass it on the way to meetings view his late morning workouts as an indication of him having thrown in the towel on trying to have any control inside the West Wing.

How Dangerous Are Trump's Severe Mental Illnesses To America? Why Not Give Him The $25 Billion Hew Wants To Steal If He Promises To Resign? DownWithTyranny!

They also have a problem with him overseas

Yeah, yeah, we all know Trump is a lying sack of shit. The idea that this man is president is more disgusting and unpalatable by the day. The idea that the latest job approval poll shows that 39% of Americans actually approve of the way he's doing his job-- and only a mere 54% disapprove-- makes me worry if my country can actually survive as a beacon of hope and a decent place to live. The Washington Post ran another Trump's the Biggest Liar in History piece yesterday. The compulsive liar-in-chief and the I-was-just-doing-what-I-was- told-Nazis who populate his ghastly regime "say U.S. laws or court rulings are forcing them to separate families that are caught trying to cross the southern border. These claims are false... Its strange to behold Trump distancing himself from the zero-tolerance policy ('the Democrats gave us that law') while Nielsen claims it doesnt exist ('its not a policy') and Sessions defends it in speech after speech."

Why Won't John Kelly Resign? Booman Tribune

How is this for a profile in political leadership from John Kelly, the White House chief of staff?

Kellys status in the White House has changed in recent months, and he and the president are now seen as barely tolerating one another. According to four people close to Kelly, the former Marine general has largely yielded his role as the enforcer in the West Wing as his relationship with Trump has soured. While Kelly himself once believed he stood between Trump and chaos, he has told at least one person close to him that he may as well let the president do what he wants, even if it leads to impeachment at least this chapter of American history would come to a close.

What kind of person continues on in his or her job beyond the point at which theyve given up on being effective or preventing an historic disaster? Who doesnt seek to exfiltrate themselves for a situation in which high crimes and misdemeanors are being committed in their field of responsibility? How do we view a chief of staff who gives up on leading either his boss or his staff and then just sits there occupying space, making apologies out of one side of his mouth and leaking excuses out of the other?

And this is too generous to Kelly, because hes been a hardliner on immigration and discouraged the president from making any kind of deal with Congress.  If the administration is now committing a crime against humanity at the border, Kelly owns every part of that policy, and all the more every day that he remains in his position.  He just sits there like a bump on a log while the president praises the character of Kim Jong-Un, says Russia properly owns Crimea, and lobbies to have sanctions lifted against Russia and the country returned to the G7.

Now he sounds like hes eager for his whole administration to be frogmarched out of the West Wing because it will end the nightmare were all living through. Does he think hell escape the Tuff-tie hand restraints?

I dont know how to define this behavior because cowardice doesnt seem to quite cover it.

The Entrapment of Michael Caputo and Roger Stone Booman Tribune

Prosecutors from the special counsels inquiry questioned Caputo last month and confronted him with a meeting he set up between a Russian and Stone. At that point, Caputo knew he and Stone were in trouble and theyve been working ever since to concoct a defense. The defense wont clear them of lying to Congress, but it appears that the Russian in question had worked as an FBI informant in the past. So, supposedly, this is a case of entrapment.

Caputo is unique among the suspects in the Russia inquiry in that hes the only one I know of who has persistently bragged over the years about having worked for the Kremlin. He got his start working to help Boris Yeltsin beat the odds and win reelection. Later on, he had a job burnishing the image of Vladimir Putin in the United Statees as an employee of Gazprom Media. Along the way, he never seems to have strayed too far from Roger Stones side, working with on a variety of trollish New York state campaigns, including the long-shot gubernatorial bids of Carl Paladino and Tom Golisano, and the takedown of attorney general Eliot Spitzer.  Its probably through Stone that Caputo made the acquaintance of Donald Trump and landed a job working as a senior communications adviser for his campaign.

While serving in that capacity, Capu...

The Russia Conspiracy is Getting Revealed Booman Tribune

George Cottrells arrest was hardly noticed at the time, especially in the United States, and it appeared even in the court documents that his subsequent cooperation with federal prosecutors pertained to the crimes for which he had been indicted, which had no obvious relationship to the Russia investigation. Before long, however, we may all know his name and his story, and he could wind up being a key figure in the downfall of Donald Trump.

Youll have to go behind a paywall to find out how George Cottrell survived his time in a U.S. prison. He was arrested at OHare International Airport on July 22, 2016, the same day that Julian Assange did his major dump of hacked emails from the Democratic National Headquarters.

Seated in a dark suit with a glass of claret in front of him at lunch recently in the Sydney Arms in Chelsea, George Cottrell describes the evening of 23 June 2016 as the best night of my life something Ill never forget.

On that day of the EU referendum poll, indeed throughout that overheated political summer, Cottrell had been in the jump seat at Nigel Farages side, working as his aide-de-camp, gatekeeper and campaign fixer from booking his helicopters to letting Simpsons Tavern in the City know that Nigel was on the way for what he likes to call a PFL (Proper Fing Lunch).

George is the nephew of Alexander Fermor-Hesketh, 3rd Baron Hesketh, a UK Independence Party donor, former member of the House of Lords, and Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire. He was 22 years old when the Feds intercepted him at OHare, seized his phone and laptop, and charged him with twenty-one counts, including blackmail, dark web money laundering, conspiracy, and wire fraud.  He had been traveling in the company of Nigel Farage and his entourage as they sought to return home to England from the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Ohio.

Understandably embarrassed, Mr. Farage sought to distance himself from his aide-de-camp.

After the arrest, Farage called Cottrell a 22-year-old unpaid volunteer and party su...

Border Patrol Agent Sets CNN Anchor Straight on Deadly Horrors Parents Put Their Migrant Kids Through The Gateway Pundit

Chris Cabrera, a Border Patrol agent and spokesman for the National Border Patrol Council, appeared on CNN Tuesday afternoon with anchor Brooke Baldwin to talk about the immigration crisis at the Southern border. Cabrera spoke from McAllen, Texas.

Baldwin tried to get Cabrera to concede to her liberal viewpoint on the Trump administrations zero tolerance crackdown on illegal immigration but Cabrera wasnt playing her game. Baldwin played the tape of the crying migrant children and tried repeatedly to get Cabrera to condemning the Trump administrations enforcement of immigration law but Cabrera demurred.

Instead, Cabrera gave Baldwin and CNN viewers an education on the deadly horrors migrant children are forced to experience because of the parents or others who use and abuse them to illegally cross the border.

CNN video posted to YouTube. Below the video is the complete transcript from CNN. (H/t Benny Johnson, Daily Caller.)

I want to get back now just to these voices that we cant hear enough of from this crisis on the border, these young children who have been taken from their parents.

Audio of their cries comes from the nonprofit news outlet ProPublica. It reports these children are somewhere between the years of 4 and 10.

The reporting also captured the words of border agents caring for them.

Midnight Meme Of The Day! DownWithTyranny!

by Noah

The Trump administration has introduced us to yet another name and face for evil. That name and face is the name and face of Kirstjen Nielsen. Nielsen is Herr Trump's Chief of Homeland Security, or "die Homeland" as they probably call it in the White House. When asked by the White House press corps why we were only seeing film and photos of male refugees in cages, she acted, and I mean acted, in her ice cold nazi-like contempt, like it was news to her. She even claimed that she didn't know what photos reporters were talking about even though they've been running like a loop on TV (Well, maybe not Rupert Murdoch's Republican channel or Alex Jones). She played her own loop of evilly disingenuous, smart ass word games about not knowing about the photos; "Photos? What photos? She took the attitude that she didn't understand what the fuss was about when reporters wanted to know the whereabouts of toddlers and young girls stolen from their parents by the Trump jackboots, the same jackboots that laugh and make jokes about the cries and terror of their captives. Either Nielsen doesn't care or she knows perfectly damn well what's happening with those kids in her Kiddie Internment Camps.

Kirstjen Nielsen. Remember that name. It's the kind of name that Republicans prefer our immigrants to have. Names don't get any whiter than that, but that's why she's got the job she has. You could look at her contempt for anyone who wanted to know the additional horrible details and see the result of decades of republican wet dreaming. Just how much further will they go, and how much further will we enable them, and their kind, to go?

When it comes to Kirstjen Nielsen, you could say, "Meet the new Sarah Huckabee Sanders." The job position is different but whereas Sanders only went as far as displaying the complete lack of empathy of an Ayn Randian psychopath, i.e. the apple of...

How Much Did Self-Funding Help In The California Congressional Races? DownWithTyranny!

Gil Cisneros, the DCCC's staff's idea of a candidate

There were a lot of candidates willing to spend over $500,000 of their own money to buy a place in the general election run-off. None of the big spenders came in first and most of them failed to come in second, which is what they would have needed to get into the general election. These are the 3 districts, all in Orange County, where multimillionaires spent over half a million in the effort. All but one of the big self-funders are Democrats, in part due to the DCCC's repulsive obsession with recruiting wealthy self-funders. In some cases they actually hurt themselves by recruiting more than one self funder in a single district. The DCCC recruited both Gil Cisneros and Mai Khanh Tran in the 39th and Harley Rouda and Hans Keirstea in the 48th, a race that still hasn't be called.

Worse yet, in the 39th, Cisneros is such an abysmal candidate that unless the blue wave is an absolute tsunami, he's unlikely to be able to win the general election. What the DCCC has done is cede the best target in Orange County to the Republicans just because Cisneros is such a big spender, his only "qualification" for office.

On Being Blind to the Real Problem LewRockwell

For several decades, a few black scholars have been suggesting that the vision held by many black Americans is entirely wrong. Dr. Shelby Steele, a scholar at Stanford Universitys Hoover Institution, said: Instead of admitting that racism has declined, we (blacks) argue all the harder that it is still alive and more insidious than ever. We hold race up to shield us from what we do not want to see in ourselves.

Dr. John McWhorter, professor of English and comparative literature at Columbia University, lamented that victimology, separatism, and anti-intellectualism underlie the general black communitys response to all race-related issues, adding that these three thought patterns impede black advancement much more than racism; and dysfunctional inner cities, corporate glass ceilings, and black educational underachievement will persist until such thinking disappears.

In the 1990s, Harvard professor Orlando Patterson wrote, America, while still flawed in its race relations is now the least racist white-majority society in the world; has a better record of legal protection of minorities than any other society, white or black; (and) offers more opportunities to a greater number of black persons than any other society, including all those of Africa.

During an interview in December with The Daily Caller, Steele said the anti-Americanism that started during the 1960s and has become mainstream and visible in the black community is heartbreaking and sad. That anti-Americanism that so dominates the American black identity has been ruinous to black America, where we are worse off than we were under segregation by almost every socio-economic measure.

Some people might challenge Steeles assertion that in many measures blacks are worse off than during segregation. How about some numbers? As late as 1950, female-headed households were only 18 percent of the black population. Today 70 percent of black children are raised in single-parent households. In the late 1800s, there were only slight differences between the black family structure and those of other ethnic groups. In New York City in 1925, for example, 85 percent of kin-related black households were two-parent households. According to the 1938 Encyclopaedia of the Social Sciences, that year 11 percent of black children were born to unwed mothers. Today about 75 percent of black children are born to unwed mothers. From 1890 to 1940, a slightly higher percentage of black adults had married than white adults. Today about twice as many blacks have never married as whites. The bottom line is that the black family was stronger the first 100 years after slavery than during what will be the second 100 years.

What about the labor market? In every census from 1890 to 1954, blacks were either just as active as or more so than...

The 3rd World Invasion of the West LewRockwell

It is cruel. It is immoral. And it breaks my heart, says former first lady Laura Bush of the Trump administration policy of zero tolerance, under which the children of illegal migrants are being detained apart from their parents.

Disgraceful, adds Dr. Franklin Graham.

We need to be a country that governs with a heart, says first lady Melania Trump. No one likes this policy, says White House aide Kellyanne Conway, even the president wants this to end.

And so it shall given the universal denunciations and photos of sobbing children being pulled from parents. Yet striking down the policy will leave Americas immigration crisis still unresolved.

Consider. Since 2016, some 110,000 children have entered the U.S. illegally and been released, along with 200,000 Central American families caught sneaking across the border.

Reflecting its frustration, the White House press office declared:

We cant deport them, we cant separate them, we cant detain them, we cant prosecute them. What (the Democrats) want is a radical open-border policy that lets everyone out into the interior of this country with virtually no documentation whatsoever.

Where many Americans see illegal intruders, Democrats see future voters.

And with 11,000 kids of illegal immigrants in custody and 250 more arriving every day, we could have 30,000 in custody by summers end.

The existential question, however, thus remains: How does the West, America included, stop the flood tide of migrants before it alters forever the political and demographic character of our nations and our civilization?

The U.S. Hispanic population, already estimated at nearly 60 million, is predicted to exceed 100 million by 2050, just 32 years away.

And Europes southern border is more imperiled than ours.

A week ago, the new populist regime in Rome refused to allow a boat full of migrants from Libya to land in Sicily. Malta also turned them away. After a voyage of almost a week and 1,000 miles, 630 migrants were landed in Valencia, Spain.

Why did Italy reject them? Under EU law, migrants apply for asylum in the country where they first enter Europe. This burdens Italy and Greece where the asylum-seekers have been arriving for years.

Of the landing in Spain, Italys interior minister Matteo Salvini, a leader of the populist League party, chortled:

I thank the Spanish government. I hope they take in the other 66,629 refugees (inside Italy). We will not be offended if the French follow the Spanish, the Portuguese and Maltese, we will be the happiest people on earth.

If the migrants boats of the Med are redirected to Spanish ports, one suspects that the Spanish people will soon become as unwelcoming as many other peoples in Europe.

Could Hillary Finally Be Locked Up? LewRockwell

US policymakers on both sides of the political spectrum have weaponized Special Counsel Robert Muellers probe and Inspector General Michael Horowitzs report in an ongoing battle for power. However, the political fight may become a detriment to the countrys national unity.

It appears that Republicans and Democrats are waging nothing short of a sleaze war ahead of the 2018 congressional elections and the future 2020 presidential run.

While Special Counsel Robert Mueller is proceeding with his investigation into alleged collusion between the Donald Trump campaign and Russia during the 2016 election race, Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz announced the results of his inquiry into the FBIs handling of Hillary Clintons email case on June 14.

Although the Horowitz report stated that there is no proof that then-FBI chief James Comeys actions were driven by political bias, it exposed controversial practices and anti-Trump bias demonstrated by some of the agencys employees and cast a shadow on the Democratic Partys election campaign.

Additionally, the report revealed that the ex-FBI chief had been insubordinate when he announced that then Democratic Partys presidential candidate Hillary Clinton would not be charged for mishandling classified information and not informing former Attorney General Loretta Lynch of his decision.

To Comeys embarrassment, it was found out that he himself had used a private email while conducting FBI business, which contradicted the agencys policies.

However, what Trumps proponents are apparently seeking is to pull the rug from under the Mueller team and undercut the Trump-Russia inquiry, Robert Costa of The Washington Post noted. According to the journalist, Republicans believe that the findings will further bruise Muellers credibility with the public and bolster the president.

As of yet, nothing indicating the Trump campa...

The Sheepdog LewRockwell

There are Wolves, there are Sheep, and then there are Sheepdogs.

Wolves prey on the outnumbered, the weak, the unsuspecting, the vulnerablei.e., whether the Sheep or, in a not infrequent number of cases, other Wolves who have fallen out of favor with the pack.

Wolves lack courage. They lack honor.  And Wolves care only about satisfying their own greed.

Though they are typically presented as being polar opposites, Wolves and Sheep actually share some character traits in common.  Sheep, too, tend not to be particularly courageous.  While they are not necessarily mean-spirited or even selfish, and while Sheep can be gentle and compassionate, since they value their own safety more than anything else, Sheep are prone to conform their speech and conduct to that of the herd.  They are prone to obey orders.

Thus, like Adolph Eichmann, to whom the Jewish philosopher Hannah Arendt ascribed a curious, but quite authentic, inability to think, Sheep too are devoid of original thought, preferring instead to trade in the banalities of whatever clichs and conventionalities happen to be in vogue at the moment.

Like Eichmann, Sheep obey orders. Only in the case of Sheep, the orders constitute the Zeitgeist of the majority, or what is felt to be the majority.

In the case of our contemporary political situation, the Spirit of the Times is what is usually called Political Correctness.

The Sheep, even when they suspect that PC notions are wrongheaded, will not dare to say so aloud.  Sheep, after all, are not daring.  And, so, PC is permitted to prevail.

The Wolves, however, are the self-appointed guardians of the PC orthodoxy, its watchdogs. The Wolves, forever salivating over the prospects of fresh blood, spare no occasion to search out deviations from their creed so as to administer as humiliating and agonizing a punishment for the heterodox as possible.

To repeat the foregoing point, Wolves and Sheep are quite similar in many respects.  Wolves run in packs because, though they will never admit it, not too far beneath the surface they are terribly afraid of being devoured by their own.  Wolves lack the self-discipline to act rightly, for righteousness often demands that one stand against the will of the Mob, the Pack or Herd.

Wolves and Sheep are two sides of the same coin.  Perhaps we need to add another character-type to this three-old taxonomy: There are Wolves, Sheep, Sheepdogs, andSheep-Wolves or Wolf-Sheep.

The Sheepdog, though, is of a different breed altogether.  The Sheepdog, like the Sheep, dreads trouble. He hates violence, and aims to avoid it at virtually all costs.  But unlike the Sheep, he doesnt hate it because he fears for his own safety alone. Like the Wolf, the Sheepdog is willing to engage in violence, but unlike the Wolf, the Sheepdog will use violence if and only if it is necessary for the sake of preventing harm to i...

Old White Guys Need Not Apply LewRockwell

The victory of the plaintiff in recent Supreme Court case of Masterpiece Cakeshop Ltd. v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission does not mean that all forms of discrimination are now legal in the United States.

Far from it.

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) recently announced that it had settled a three-year-old lawsuit against Orlando-based Darden Restaurants, a Fortune 500 company with 1,700 restaurants and 175,000 employees that owns the brands Olive Garden, LongHorn Steakhouse, Cheddars Scratch Kitchen, Yard House, The Capital Grille, Bahama Breeze, Eddie Vs, and Seasons 52.

The problem?

The federal lawsuit, which was filed in February 2015, alleged that job candidates at Seasons 52 were told that the restaurants didnt hire old white guys.

Seasons 52, which has forty-one locations in twenty states, is a fresh grill and wine bar that offers a seasonal menu inspired by the fresh appeal of a farmers market and whats good now. The restaurant uses ingredients at their peak and rustic cooking techniques, like brick-oven roasting and open fire grilling over oak and mesquite, which bring out the natural flavors of food.

The EEOC

  • said managers at Dardens Seasons 52 chain tried to portray a young and hip image by hiring younger servers and hosts.
  • alleged that Seasons 52 wouldnt hire two men, Anthony Scornavacca, then 52, and Hugo Alfaro, then 42, because of their age.
  • commissioned a statistical report from a University of California, Irvine professor that said Seasons 52 had not hired enough older employees.
  • said it contacted thousands of people over 40 who applied for jobs at Seasons 52 and found 254 people who claimed they were treated with bias.
  • alleged that one manager bluntly said that Seasons 52 didnt employ old white guys.

Often, discrimination cases are hard to prove, said David Seltzer, an attorney on the case with the EEOCs Miami district office. But here, Seasons 52 interviews across locations repeatedly told applicants things like We dont hire people over 40, Seasons 52 girls are younger and fresh or asked them for their date of birth, high school graduation date or a drivers license.

Lawyers for Darden argued the incidents were isolated and that there wasnt proof of a top-down effort to exclude older workers.

According to the $2.85 million settlement, Seasons 52 admitted no liability and continues to deny the allegations but will be required to hold new training for all hiring managers regarding age-neutral and non...

Anthony Bourdain LewRockwell

Did celebrity travel writer, publisher and CNN Parts Unknown TV host Anthony Bourdain, possibly the most influential cultural icon in the world one who spoke truth to power kill himself or was he murdered?

The sudden, unexpected death of Bourdain, 61, a beloved, effective international diplomat on behalf of humanity, certainly merits investigating.

Some oddities of this case: The only proof he killed himself is one official announcing he had committed suicide; his body was cremated before his family got to see the body and without the conducting of an autopsy; he was the latest in a growing list of celebrities reportedly killing themselves using the bizarre method of hanging from a doorknob; his girlfriend was a self-professed witch; he had been targeted by Hillary Clintons operatives; and he had taken on the Mossad. With all of that, isnt it just common sense to ask a few if not a lot of questions?

The corporate media unanimously, unquestioningly reported his death in a hotel in France as a suicide by hanging. The world-renowned storyteller supposedly did not leave a note. The only proof that he killed himself is one officials statements to the press. No autopsy nor toxocology reports had been conducted yet French officials had already wrapped up the case. At this stage we have no reason to suspect foul play, said Christian de Rocquigny de Fayel, prosecutor for the city of Colmar the day after Bourdains body was discovered. Bourdain was reportedly found with his bathrobe belt around his neck. The prosecutor said, This leads us to suspect that not much preparation and premeditation went into the act. There is no indication of any involvement by a third person and were ready to give the body to his family. First reports stated Bourdain was found by his friend chef Eric Ripert, but then story changed to his body being found by the hotel receptionist.

In the days after news broke of his shocking death, as if on cue, internet posters on news and social media sites robotically recited the national suicide prevention phone number and many articles were published about how to recognize the warning signs of depression. The corporate media dutifully resurrected previous written and video statements about his past battles with depression and his joking threats to hang himself.

Absent from corporate media coverage was even raising the logical possibility that foul play may have been involved. Any suggestion that police had rushed to judgment has been dismissed by the fakestream media and the usual suspects Buzzfeed and Snopes as a...

No Borders, No Country LewRockwell

President Donald Trump has doubled down on his tough immigration rhetoric, vowing to keep arresting illegal immigrants and blaming Democrats for wanting illegal immigrants to pour in as their potential voters.

Trumps Monday morning tweets come amid a growing backlash over his administrations zero-tolerance immigration policy. The policy has seen every illegal border-jumper criminally prosecuted and almost 2,000 children separated from their parents in the last two months, as the parents await trial.

But Trump has defended his policy by tweeting: If you dont have Borders, you dont have a Country!

The president also accused illegal immigrants of endangering the lives of their children by sending them unaccompanied to the US. There are currently 12,000 children in the custody of the Department of Health and Human Services. Of these, 10,000 were sent across the border unaccompanied, according to Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen.

The Trump administration blames previous administrations for lax border laws that entice immigrants to come to the United States, and also for a 2008 law that allows children to be taken into custody by HHS. Were not the ones responsible for creating this problem, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said. Weve inherited it. But were the first administration stepping up and trying to fix it.

In another tweet on Tuesday, Trump accused Democrats of letting illegal immigrants, including gang members, pour into and infest the US to court their votes.

Democrats are the problem, he proclaimed. They dont care about crime and want illegal immigrants, no matter how bad they may be, to pour into and infest our Country, like MS-13. They cant win on their terrible policies, so they view them as potential voters!

You May Not Know These Inventors LewRockwell

We take inventions that were created years ago for granted. But we often forget about the people who devised them. Once you read about the ways in which these people created their life-changing inventions, youll appreciate even more what they had to go through to make it.

There is so much we can learn from these inventorsfrom their determination to their resourcefulness and sacrifices. They did some surprising things in the process. In these modern times, we sometimes need to remind ourselves how far weve come.

10 Christopher Cockerell The Hovercraft

Christopher Cockerell became interested in the idea for the hovercraft after scientists discovered a basic prototype could float with a cushion of air inside it. The problem was that the air quickly escaped through the sides.

Cockerell demonstrated that a wall of air could solve this problem by trapping all the air. He conducted an experiment where he fitted a cat food tin inside a coffee tin and then pumped air from a vacuum cleaner between them.[1]

In 1955, he patented his idea. Four years later, his hovercraft test was successful after it traveled along the South Coast of England. His invention is especially useful in countries where there are worn roads and railway tracks. This gives people the chance to travel through different landscapes like rivers and deserts.

9 Frank Whittle The Jet Engine

While studying at the Royal Air Force College, Frank Whittle wrote a paper on Future Developments in Aircraft Design. He went into detail about how airplanes would soon be able to travel at speeds of more than 800 kilometers per hour (500 mph).

They would be equipped with jet engines instead of propellers. Whittle described how his engine design would burn cheap fuel oil, thus producing gases that would turn the turbine blades and cause the plane to go forward from the sheer force of the gases.

Even Adults Can Do This LewRockwell

Children can pick up new languages like its no big deal, but adults have to really work to get even the basics. While it may seem daunting, its not impossible to learn a new language as an adult. Here are some tricks to make it easier.

1. LEARN VOCABULARY EVERYWHERE.

When youre learning a new language, everything you interact with is a chance to learn or practice a word. Give yourself lots of opportunities in your daily life to get a new word down. Label the objects in your home or office with sticky notes. Change the names of contacts in your phone to include the name of their relation to you (mother, father, roommate, boss, sister) so you will see that vocabulary on your screen when they text you. Make yourself say the name of everything you eat before you eat it. Youll be surprised by how quickly your vocabulary will grow.

2. MEMORIZE WHOLE PHRASES.

Knowing individual words is a good first step, but its often better to learn commonly used sentences or phrases. Once you have a full sentence down, you will know how to create similarly structured sentences by simply swapping out nouns and verbs. For example, if youve got a base sentence memorized like I would have bought the eggs, but they were broken you only need to change the nouns and verbs to get similar sentences like I would have read the book, but it was too long or I would have worn my blue sweater, but it was torn.

3. PRACTICE WHOLE DIALOGUES WITH FLUENT SPEAKERS.

You must engage in conversations with fluent speakers to really get the hang of speaking on the fly. Luckily, most of the conversations we have in our daily life are pretty predictable. If you are traveling, people are likely to ask you where are you from? and how do you like it here? If you are ordering at a restaurant, the script is even more constrained. If you have a few whole dialogues ready, youll be better prepared to both speak and understand. Even if the conversation veers away from the set dialogue, if you get a few good back-and-forth turns in, it will increase your confidence and help you relax.

So Many Vitamins and Minerals in Just One Leaf LewRockwell

Do you have an aloe vera plant sitting on your kitchen window sill or on your patio? If you do, it is likely you use it for when you burn yourself on a hot pot or get a little too much sun. These are the top reasons people turn to this attractive succulent, and there is good reason for it!

In addition to burns, aloe vera has been studied and shown to be effective for many health challenges. A quick look at the many active components of the succulent explains why. For example, aloe vera contains the potent antioxidants vitamins A, C, and E, as well as vitamin B12, folic acid, and choline.

The minerals calcium, chromium, copper, magnesium, manganese, potassium, selenium, sodium, and zinc are also found in aloe vera. Anti-inflammatory properties are offered by fatty acids, while a dozen anthraquinones act as laxatives while some also are pain relievers, antibacterials, and antivirals. Hormones called auxins and gibberellins are important for wound healing and fighting inflammation.

So, if you want to take full advantage of the many medicinal benefits of aloe vera, check out some of the following possibilities. In some cases, you can simply pluck a leaf from your home plant and extract the gel or juice. However, you can also use a commercial certified organic aloe vera gel or juice*.

1. Cold sores

We all know how annoying and unsightly cold sores can be! Applying aloe vera gel to a cold sore several times a day can accelerate the healing process as well as reduce pain. The amino acids, B vitamins (especially B6), and vitamin C in aloe vera are part of the reason for this healing advantage.

2. Constipation

The latex in aloe vera leaves, which is found just below the surface of the leaf, contains anthraquinones, which have a laxative property. In a double-blind trial, aloe vera latex had a strong laxative effect when compared with a placebo.

3. Diabetes

A number of studies have indicated that aloe vera may alleviate chronic low blood sugar. In one trial, for example, 72 women with diabetes were given either a placebo or one tablespoon of aloe vera gel for six weeks. Both blood glucose and triglyceride levels declined significantly in the aloe vera group but not in the placebo group.

In another trial, the 72 women were given either aloe vera gel or a placebo combined with a common antidiabetic drug, glibenclamide. The women in the aloe vera group showed significant reductions in blood glucose and triglyceride concentrations.

4. Digestive problems

Because aloe vera has anti-inflammatory and laxative properties, it has been helpful in managing digestive issues. For example, aloe ver...

Were Not Out To Take Your Guns LewRockwell

U.S.A.  I have one small thing to ask of the gun-prohibitionists. Please stop lying to us.  For extra credit, Id like the rights-restrictors to stop lying to themselves as well. Even that may be too much to ask. If the gun control advocates must lie, then make up some new propaganda. The old lies are wearing thin, and here are some obvious ones. See if you agree.

The police will take care of us.

The courts have ruled time and again that the police have no duty to protect us. The police are not liable for our protection even if you called the police and asked for help before you were attacked. The police collect evidence of a crime. If a criminal is active long enough, then eventually the police might catch him. Whether a jury will convict the criminal, whether a judge will sentence him and he will actually serve his sentence, is another question entirely. The police might, or might not, stop a crime committed right in front of them.

Lets look at the problem from another perspective. Please conduct this experiment yourself. I couldnt make a cell phone call while my wife was trying to tickle me, and I am only slightly ticklish. I couldnt call the police even though I am considerably larger and stronger than my wife.

Criminals are far more brutal. I certainly couldnt make a 911 call while I was being beaten, raped, stabbed, or shot.. and I dont want you to try this for yourself. We can try and call the police once the attack is over if we still have our cell phones and our wits. The average police response time in the US is twelve and a half minutes.

Robberies are over in seconds. The police cant take care of us when danger strikes.

We can stop criminals from getting guns.

Gun prohibition doesnt work. Weve tried prohibition before. We made alcohol illegal and criminals sold alcohol. Drugs are illegal today, and selling illegal drugs is a 100 billion dollar industry in the US. Drug gangs also smuggle millions of illegal immigrants into the US, so importing a small package containing firearms is trivial.

In bleeding Chicago, fully 98 out of 100 criminals obtained their guns illegally. The street price for an illegal gun is less than the price to buy a new gun legally at a gun shop. An honest person needs three days to get a handgun in Illinois due to mandatory waiting periods. On the other hand, a criminal gets a fresh gun in a few hours, and all the background checks and waiting periods in the world wont stop him.

The situation is worse in countries that outlawed civilian firearms. Criminals break gun laws just as they break other laws.

This is only common...

How Fit Are Your Feet? LewRockwell

We worry about our waistlines, get our eyes tested and make dreaded dentist appointments. But what about your feet? Chances are you dont spare them much thought.

But, increasingly, research suggests we should be paying them more attention with experts pointing out that our feet really are the foundation of our health. Keeping them in tip-top shape, they argue, could improve posture, prevent injuries and ward off aches and pains.

Perhaps most important, looking after our feet could prevent life-threatening falls.

One in three adults over 65 will have at least one fall a year and they are the most common cause of injury-related deaths in people over 75, according to the NHS. This is because they can lead to fatal hip fractures and head injuries.

The feet are a neglected part of the body, says Dr Ralph Rogers, a consultant in sports and orthopaedic medicine at The London Sports Injury Clinic. Nobody thinks about them until something goes wrong.

But with just a little bit of regular maintenance and consideration, millions of people could be saved from future problems, he says. Here, we bring you the expert guide to training your feet just as youd train any other muscle in your body and explain why its so vital.

WHY YOUR FEET NEED A WORKOUT

Great posture starts with your feet, explains Dr Rogers. The foundation of a building provides a base of stability that supports the entire structure, therefore a weak foundation leads to collapse. The same happens with your feet.

Each foot should function almost as a tripod, with the big toe, the little toe and the heel forming the three points that hold the ankles, knees and hips in perfect alignment above the foot when it is flat on the floor with the outside edge of the foot in contact with the ground. (The inside edge will not usually be flat on the floor because of the natural arch.)

But, as Dr Rogers points out, when that tripod is not perfectly balanced because the foots arch is naturally too high or too low or through ill-fitting footwear, injury or muscular weakness it affects the ankles, knees, hips, back and shoulders.

It creates dysfunctional movement and can lead to hip, back, and neck pain and can even be the cause of headaches, he says. For instance, if youve hurt your big toe, youll change the way you walk. This can mean the calf muscles take extra pressure, which can have a kn...

Rush Limbaugh: Drive-By Media Bombarding Americans With Manufactured Crises to Distract from IG Report, Robust Economy (VIDEO) The Gateway Pundit

The liberal media has been manufacturing crises ad-infinitum to divert the publics attention away from the Trump administrations tremendous achievements and the Democratic establishments corruption, conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh warns.

While Inspector General Michael Horowitzs damning report proves the FBI colluded with the Hillary campaign to exonerate her in the email investigation, Democrats are bombarding Americans with fabricated propaganda about Trumps heartless immigration policy, which consists of the president enforcing the already established laws, Limbaugh explained Tuesday.

We are smack dab in the middle of another manufactured media crisis about the supposed Donald Trump, that purposely, wontedly, separates young families who are simply seeking a better life by crossing the border of the United States illegally, he said. Trump is the first president, in I dont know how long, actually enforcing the law. Thats what has everybody so shocked. If you really want to do the humane thing, you stop them from coming, you tell them not to come and when they arrive you turn them away.

Pro-amnesty Democrats, who are adamantly against building a wall along the US, Mexico border do not sincerely care about the welfare of unaccompanied illegal children or they would support legislation that secures the border and disincentives immigrants from entering the United States illegally, Limbaugh argued.

If your heart is breaking and if its gut-wrenching this whole idea of separating families then what you must support is the denial of entry illegally into the country and the deportation. Thats the solution to the problem, dont come, dont show up and try to get into the country illegally right now because the president, his administration have made it plain, they are going to enforce the law.

The reason why all of this is happening is because these people are attempting to get in the country illegally, he continued. If you want to end the problem, if that is really what the objective is   It isnt by the way, all of these people wringing their hands and crying about separated families, they dont care about that. Thats not what this is about. Because if it were theres a simple way to stop it. Stop trying to get into the country illegally, knowingly.

(UPDATE AT END FROM DHS SPOX) Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen was forced to leave a downtown Washington, D.C. Mexican restaurant Tuesday evening after a gang of screaming leftists with the Democratic Socialists of America and the Wobblies took over the restaurant and harangued Nielsen for ten minutes over the current border crisis. Neither the managers nor DHS security did anything to interfere with the protest. Nielsens security detail formed a small perimeter, but the protesters did not appear to try to physically attack Nielsen. While the protest was ostensibly about the migrant children separated from their families after they illegally crossed the border, the real motive for the protest was revealed when the protesters closed with prolonged chants of, No borders, no walls, sanctuary for all!

The protesters falsely yelled that 10,000 children had been taken from their parents. It is actually 10,000 children whose parents incredibly have sent them alone on the perilous journey through Mexico to sneak into the U.S. Only 2,000 children have been separated at the border from parents after they illegally entered the U.S. Both figures were reported by DHS.

Rosenstein Hid Damning Strzok Text Message Well Stop Trump From Becoming President From Congressional Investigators For a Month (VIDEO) The Gateway Pundit

On Tuesday, Inspector General Michael Horowitz testified in a joint Congressional hearing to the House Oversight and House Judiciary panels about his review of the FBIs (mis)handling of the Clinton email investigation.

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) grilled Horowitz over why the damning Strzok text message dated August 8th, 2016 stating well stop Trump from becoming president was missing from earlier production.

Horowitz told Jordan he gave the damning text message to the office of the Deputy Attorney General a month ago which only further infuriated the GOP lawmaker.

God Bless Rep. Jim Jordan.

Horowitz admitted to Rep. Jordan he discovered the damning well stop Trump text message from Peter Strzok in May.

Rep. Jordan wanted to know who made the decision to withhold this damning text message from Congressional investigators for a month.

But who made the decision? Was it Mr. Wray, was it Mr. Rosenstein, Mr. Sessions? Who made the decision? Jordan asked Horowitz.

We sent it to the Office of Deputy Attorney General, Horowitz said.

So, Mr. Rosenstein. Rosenstein made a decision that instead of us seeing the most explosive text message between these two key agents that were on the Clinton team, the Russia team, and on the Special Counsel team, he made a decision to wait a month for us to see that text message, Rep Jordan said.

Rep. Jordan went on to say this isnt the first time Rosenstein has kept information from Congress; he has a pattern of secrecy and stonewalling.

Is Every Single Thing Just A Distraction For The Unprecedented Kleptocracy? DownWithTyranny!

Today, Lloyd Blankfein, CEO of Goldman Sachs, told a Bloomberg editor at the Economic Club of New York that he thinks Seor Trumpanzee is just bluffing about starting a trade war. "Thats what youd do if it was a negotiating position and you wanted to remind your negotiating counterparty of how much firepower you have. I dont think were in a suicide pact on this, so I suspect were not going to cause the economies to collapse... I do think-- as some people have commented-- that this is part of a negotiating pattern, that would be my best take." And no one knows what a gaslighting bullshit artist Trump is?

WILL NEVER GIVE IN: Fox News Stands By Laura Ingraham in Latest David Hogg Boycott Attack The Gateway Pundit

Teen tyrant David Hogg started a new boycott campaign on Tuesday against Fox News Channel prime time host Laura Ingraham, this time over comment comparing a holding facility for child migrants illegally entering the US to a summer camp. Fox said the network will never tolerate give in to attempts to silence diverse viewpoints by agenda-driven intimidation efforts.

Beauty and the bully.

Fox News Channel released a statement to the media Tuesday evening standing by Ingraham (via The Hollywood Reporter.)

Laura Ingrahams very personal, on-the-ground commitment to the plight of impoverished and abandoned children specifically in Guatemala speaks for itself. So too does her strong belief in a commonsense, legal immigration system, which will continue to be a focus of her show. Fox News will never tolerate or give in to attempts to silence diverse viewpoints by agenda-driven intimidation efforts.

Ingraham has adopted three children, a girl from Guatemala and two boys from Russia.

Excerpt from previous TGP report.

18-year-old Parkland school shooting activist and boycott bully David Hogg is once again targeting Fox News Channel prime time host Laura Ingraham with an advertiser boycott. Back in March, Hogg got his feelings hurt because Ingraham commented on his self-admitted difficulties getting admitted to elite California universities. Hogg led a partially successful boycott campaign which cost Ingraham several advertisers but also increased her audience as Fox and other advertisers stood by Ingraham.

Teen Tyrant David Hogg Targets Laura Ingraham With New Boycott Over Illegal Alien Children Summer Camp Comment The Gateway Pundit

In the four months since the Parkland school massacre, Hogg has led boycotts with mixed results against Publix grocery stores (pictured) FedEx, Florida tourism, NRA supporting companies and Laura Ingraham.

Now Hogg is going after Ingraham again. This time over her comment that illegal alien children being held for processing by the Trump administration while separated from their families and unaccompanied minors are kept in conditions akin to a summer camp.

Hogg became a nationally known gun control activist after a bullied former student attacked students and faculty at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, where Hogg was a senior, killing 17.

Hogg has led boycotts related to gun control and the NRA with mixed results. While Ingraham is a Second Amendment supporter, Hoggs boycotts of her have nothing to do with gun control and everything to do with Hoggs apparent impulse to smash a woman he cant control.

A video clip of Ingraham that Hogg retweeted, Laura Ingraham calls child detention centers essentially summer camps

Hogg tweeted to Ingraham Tuesday morning in bullying comments. The haughty tone used by Hogg sounds like the kind used by psycho-stalkers who taunt women into submission.

Democratic Rep. Joe Crowley, Facing Progressive Challenge, Turns to GOP Lobbying Firm for Cash The Intercept

House Democratic Caucus Chair Rep. Joe Crowley, D-N.Y., is raising last-minute campaign cash from a corporate lobbying firm famous for its ties to the Republican Party.

Faced with a surprisingly strong challenge from progressive first-time candidate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in New Yorks Democratic primary, Crowley, the fourth-ranking House Democrat, is slated to appear at the the offices of BGR Group on 13th Street in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday afternoon for a fundraising reception, according to a copy of an invitation obtained by The Intercept.

The fundraiser is at an odd venue for a Democrat who claims to be an avowed opponent of the GOP.

The invitation lists Crowleys position in leadership of the Democratic Party and as a member of the powerful Ways & Means Committee, which oversees tax policy. The fundraiser, which asks for $500 minimum to attend as an individual and $1,000 to attend for political action committees, is at an odd venue for a Democrat who claims to be an avowed opponent of the GOP.

BGR is named for its founding partners, all of whom are Republican: Haley Barbour, the former Republican National Committee chair; Ed Rogers, a former aide to President Ronald Reagan; and Lanny Griffith, a former education official in President George H.W. Bushs administration.

The firm boasts a high-profile list of clients, many of whom face contentious issues on Capitol Hill.

BGR Group represents defense giants Raytheon, Huntington Ingalls, and United Technologies on procurement. Pharmaceutical firms, including Eli Lilly and Company, retain BGR Group explicitly to stave off the threat of lowering drug prices, according to lobbying disclosures. Protests on Sixth Anniversary of Assange Entering the Ecuadorian Embassy Bring People Together From Across the Political Spectrum The Gateway Pundit

Speakers and activists, ranging from Socialists to Trump supporters, joined together all across the globe for a day of unity in protest of the sixth anniversary of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange entering the Ecuadorian Embassy in London seeking political asylum.

The protesters were demanding that Australia, Britain and the US abide by the UN ruling that Assange be allowed his freedom.

Assange entered the Ecuadorian Embassy in London on June 19, 2012, where he applied for, and was granted, political asylum. Since that time, the building has been encircled by police waiting on standby to arrest him, likely to extradite him the United States where he would face extreme persecution for the crime of doing truthful journalism.

Outside the White House, left-wing activists including Code Pink founder Medea Benjamin and  CIA whistleblower Ray McGovern stood alongside Trump-supporters such as Lee Stranahan of Breitbart and Sputnik News, Will Chamberlain who helped build MAGA Meetups, and myself.

He has enough support that we will protect him, McGovern said during his speech.

Benjamin expressed deep concern about the enemies that Assange has made in every administration since his organizations inception.

You know how they say you can know a person by the friends they keep? Well, you can also know a person by the enemies they make and when you look at Julian Assange hes made a lot of enemies, Benjamin began. Those enemies were in the Bush administration, the Obama administration and now it looks like hes making enemies in the Trump administration. He released critical information about what the Bush administration was doing in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Guantanamo. Then, he released information about what Clinton was doing with her foundation and Saudi Arabia.

Benjamin added, now it looks like the Trump administration is pissed off at Julian Assange as well, look at the pressure they are putting on Ecuador.

In March, Ecuador caved to pressure from the United States to isolate Assange by revoking his right to have visitors, make phone calls or use the internet. With no access to the outside world or means of communication, he is now being kept in conditions worse than our prisoners in solitary confinement.

IG Horowitz: FBI Withholding Names of Anti-Trump Agents From Public The Gateway Pundit

Inspector General Michael Horowitz revealed on Tuesday in a joint hearing with the House Oversight and House Judiciary Committees the FBI is refusing to allow Trump-hating agents to be named publicly.

Rep Ted Poe (R-TX) asked Inspector General Horowitz about the unnamed, anti-Trump FBI officials in his review on the bureaus (mis)handling of the Hillary email investigation.

Horowitz said the FBI is withholding the names from the public because they work on counterintelligence.

FBI employees were simply referred to as FBI attorney 2, or FBI employee. (example below)

Well-Deserved Set Back For Kris Kobach In Kansas DownWithTyranny!

Kris Kobach is one of the poster children for voter disenfranchisement and xenophobia. He's currently Kansas secretary of state running for governor. According to the Wichita Eagle, a federal judge struck down his discriminatory voter law and has ordered him to take legal/civics classes

Judge Julie Robinson, in an 118-page ruling Monday, ordered a halt to the states requirement that people provide proof of citizenship in order to register to vote. The decision will probably mae it easier to register for the August primaries.
Judge Julie Robinson also ordered Kobach, who is seeking the Republican nomination for governor, to take more hours of continuing legal education after he was found in contempt and was frequently chided during the trial over missteps.

In an 118-page ruling Monday, Robinson ordered a halt to the states requirement that people provide proof of citizenship in order to register to vote. The decision holds the potential to make registration easier as the August and November elections approach.

Robinsons ruling amounted to a takedown of the law that Kobach had championed and lawmakers approved several years ago. She found that it disproportionately impacts duly qualified registration applicants, while only nominally preventing noncitizen voter registration. If eligible Kansans votes are not counted despite believing they are registered to vote, it erodes confidence in the electoral system, Robinson wrote.

She ordered Kobach not to enforce the proof of citizenship law and its accompan...

DAVID BROOKS'S FAKE CONSERVATIVES SURE LOOK LIKE REAL CONSERVATIVES TO ME No More Mister Nice Blog

In today's column, David Brooks makes a "no true Scotsman" argument about conservatives and immigration.

... this administration ... is not populated by conservatives. It is populated by anti-liberal trolls. Theres a difference.

People like Stephen Miller are not steeped in conservative thinking and do not operate with a conservative disposition. They were formed by their rebellion against the stifling conformity they found at liberal universities. Their primary orientation is not to conservative governance but to owning the libs. In power they take the worst excesses of statism and flip them for anti-liberal ends.
Brooks says we can identify the fake conservatives by their use of language:
Heres how you can detect the anti-liberal trolls in the immigration debate: Watch how they use the word amnesty. Immigration is a complex issue. Any serious reform has to grapple with tangled realities, and any real conservative has an appreciation for that complexity. But if you try to account for that complexity before an anti-immigration troll, he or she will shout one word: Amnesty!

Maybe we should find some arrangement for the Dreamers? Amnesty! The so-called moderate House immigration bill? Amnesty! Keeping families together? Amnesty!

This is what George Orwell noticed about the authoritarian brutalists: They dont use words to illuminate the complexity of reality; they use words to eradicate the complexity of reality.
The implication is that conservatives have always favored some sort of immigration reform, and people who denounce any reform effort as "amnesty" are fake conservatives, a new breed who've come to dominate conservatism only in the Trump era.

If that's the case, I'm not sure why, when the Bush administration's immigration bill died in the Senate in 2007, 37 Republicans voted against it and only 12 voted in favor. Surely those 37 couldn't all have been fake conservatives, right?

And shouts of "Amnesty"? They're not new. Here was then-congressman Mike Pence in 2006, trying to get to the right of President Bush, as described by Time magazine:
Pence, a rising star in the House, is suggesting a temporary worker program based on a database run by private industry. And unlike the leading plan in the Senate and the blueprint sketched by Bush, his "Border Integrity and Immigration Reform Act" would require all applicants to leave the country first.... Even though Bush has said his preferred solution "ain't amnesty," Pence appeals to ha...

Inspector General Michael Horowitz revealed on Tuesday in a joint hearing with the House Oversight and House Judiciary Committees two more anti-Trump FBI lawyers may have been removed from Muellers witch hunt.

House Oversight Chairman Trey Gowdy (R-SC) asked Inspector General Horowitz, Did you find any other FBI agents or FBI attorneys who manifest any animus or bias against President Trump?

IG Horowitz Confirms He is Investigating Whether Strzoks Anti-Trump Bias Impacted Launch of Russia Probe The Gateway Pundit

Inspector General Michael Horowitz revealed on Tuesday in a joint hearing with the House Oversight and House Judiciary Committees he is investigating whether Peter Strzoks anti-Trump bias impacted the launch of the Russia Probe.

Trump-hating FBI Special Agent Peter Strzok

Fox News reported:

Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz confirmed Tuesday that he is investigating whether FBI official Peter Strzoks anti-Trump bias factored into the launch of the bureaus Russia probe.

During a joint hearing before the House Oversight and Judiciary committees, Horowitz testified that his office was reviewing Strzoks anti-Trump text messages as part of a separate probe related to the Russia investigation.

It clearly shows a biased state of mind, Horowitz said, referring to text messages written as the FBI probe of Hillary Clintons private email use was wrapping up and the Russia probe was getting underway.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., questioned Horowitz on whether that apparent bias influenced the initiation of the investigation into Russia interference in the 2016 campaign and potential collusion with Trumps team.

Thats a matter weve got under review and are looking at right now, Horowitz said.

Of course Peter Strzoks hatred for Trump impacted the launch of the Russia probe.

Trump-hating FBI Special Agent Peter Strzok sent his mistress Lisa Page a text message saying well stop Trump from becoming President.

This text message from Strzok was sent to Page 9 days after Crossfire Hurricane was opened and 6 days before the insurance policy text.

In another damning text exchange between the FBI lovebirds 6 days after Strzok said hell stop Trump from becoming President, was a discussion about an insurance policy to keep Donald Trump out of office.

Ambassador from Lebanon to the U.S.: Who Is Gabriel Issa? [News - AllGov]

The recently installed ambassador from Lebanon is actually a Lebanese-American who lived in the U.S. more than 40 years. Shortly before the October 2016 presidential election in Lebanon, Gabriel Issa of Detroit returned to Lebanon on a permanent basis and became a close advisor to Lebanons soon-to-be president, Michel Aoun. Aoun appointed Issa ambassador in July 2017 and Issa presented his credentials to President Donald Trump on January 24, 2018. As ambassador to the U.S., Issa succeeds Antoine Chedid, who served from July 2007 to January 2016.

Born March 15, 1957, in Lebanon, Gabriel Naoum Issa immigrated to the U.S. in 1975 at age 18. Settling down in the Detroit area, which has had a large Lebanese-American community since the 1870s, Issa earned a BS in Civil Engineering at the Detroit Institute of Technology in 1980.

Even before graduation, Issa had already founded two businesses, AAA Language Services and Iterotext Translation Services, in March 1978. Both are located in the Detroit suburb of Bloomfield. Among Interotexts achievements has been translating General Motors car manuals into languages other than English.

Issa spent his career building those two businesses, along with several others, including AAA Properties, founded in August 1995; G&T Enterprises (February 1996); AAA International Group (May 1997); PreBuy (January 1999); and Joules International (January 2009).

Although he became a naturalized US citizen, Issa has been deeply involved in Lebanese politics for years. Lebanons politics revolve around the religious divisions in the country, whose population is 54% Muslim, 40.5% Christian, and 5.6% Druze, according to the CIA World Factbook. A Maronite Christian, Issa has long supported the Free Patriotic Movement, (FPM) which is one of two large Christian parties. Last October, the FPM elected its first president of Lebanon, Michel Aoun, who forged an alliance between the FPM and the Shiia party Hezbollah. Issa is a long-time associate of Aoun, who, while in exile, sent Issa to Syria in 2005 to discuss Syria withdrawing troops from Lebanon, a goal Issa had been pursuing since 1990, and which was achieved, after a 29-year occupation, in 2005.

Issa has been active in the Lebanese-American community. He has served as president of the Lebanese American Council of Detroit, as president of the Lebanese American Political Action Committee in Detroit; and as co-founder (in 1990) and vice-president of the Lebanese American Council for Democracy in Washington, DC.

Issa speaks fluent Arabic and French. He is married to Bernadette (Gab...

THEY'RE RACISTS, BUT THEY'RE EPISTEMIC-CLOSURE RACISTS No More Mister Nice Blog

The Atlantic's McKay Coppins tells us that Trump aide Stephen Miller thinks the administration's brutal family separation policy is excellent politics:

... it should be understood that Millers hardline approach to immigration predates his work for Trump. In 2013, as an aide to then-Senator Jeff Sessions, Miller made his name on Capitol Hill fighting ferociously against a bipartisan immigration-reform bill....

But when we talked, Miller also made it clear to me that he sees immigration as a winning political issue for his boss.

The American people were warnedlet me [be] sarcastic when I remark on that[they] were quote-unquote warned by Hillary Clinton that if they elected Donald Trump, he would enforce an extremely tough immigration policy, crack down on illegal immigration, deport people who were here illegally, improve our vetting and screening, and all these other things, Miller told me. And many people replied to that by voting for Donald Trump.

... Speaking to The New York Times, Miller framed his theory this way: You have one party thats in favor of open borders, and you have one party that wants to secure the border. And all day long the American people are going to side with the party that wants to secure the border. And not by a little bit. Not 5545. 6040. 7030. 8020. Im talking 9010 on that.
The New Republic's Jeet Heer believes that Trump and Miller are motivated much more by racism than by political considerations:
Trump and Miller might think this is smart politics but The Wall Street Journals editorial board strongly disagrees. In a Tuesday editorial they warn that the GOPs internal feuding over immigration that is fast becoming an election-year nightmare over separating immigrant children from their parents. FiveThirtyEight shares this assessment, noting that the family separation policy is generating widespread opposition, even from people who have traditionally been allies of the president. It has forced the administration to defend an approach that polls terribly....

WAYNE ALLYN ROOT: FBI=FIRE BUREAU IMMEDIATELY The Gateway Pundit

By Wayne Allyn Root

The letters FBI should now stand for FIRE BUREAU IMMEDIATELY.

There isnt a shred of credibility left for the FBI. Its now clear the FBI leadership and their top agents/investigators were involved in a vast criminal conspiracy to fix a presidential election. These arent guesses or opinions. These are facts gleaned from text messages sent by FBI employees.

This is so scary. Im a witness. I already had my own personal experience with a powerful government agency used by a president to destroy a political opponent. I know the power and evil of government run amok. Obamas IRS tried to destroy me and bankrupt me under a blizzard of debt by denying all of my 100% legal deductions and of course, under a blizzard of legal bills, despite my innocence.

If little ole Wayne Root was a threat, just think of the massive threat Donald Trump posed to Obama and Hillary. If Trump was elected president he could investigate all of the crimes of Obama and Hillary and send them and their corrupt cabal to prison. So instead of a bunch of bean-counter IRS agents, they sent the big boys. The government-sanctioned hit squad, aka The FBI and DOJ.

This was the perfect conspiracy. The DOJ and FBI were (before this conspiracy was exposed) the most respected and credible law enforcement agencies in America. Who was watching them? Who would investigate them? Who would put them in prison for breaking the law?

Before I get to the findings and revelations, let me lay bare the obscene argument put forth by DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz. The general conclusion by IG Horowitz (an Obama appointee) was these FBI agents were bad guys. They did bad things. They were insubordinate. The things they did were extraordinary and dramatically broke with FBI norms. Those are the direct words of the Inspector General. But he stopped short of calling any of it criminal. He actually claimed these extraordinary acts were not done out of political bias.

Hold on a minute, while I try to stop laughing.

Really? Let me destroy that myth right now. Lets substitute the words Trump and Republican with black and Obama. If FBI employees texts talked of hatred for black peoplecalled black people idiots, lazy, retarded, deplorable and how about this wonderful phrase- POS (standing for pieces of excrement)and then we found out those same FBI employees were the ones investigating a black president

Would anyone, anywhere argue the personal opinions and prejudices of the FBI investigators didnt affect the investigation of a black president? And it wasnt political bias? Dont make me laugh.

If those same FBI employees investigating Obama were caught on text saying, I will stop Obama, I promise I will not let him become president would anyone, anywhere argue it wasnt political bias and it didn&#821...

Trumps 2020 Campaign Manager Brad Parscale Calls for End of Mueller Investigation, AG Sessions to be Fired The Gateway Pundit

Following the release of the bombshell DOJ Office of Inspector General Report last week and the congressional testimony by Inspector General Horowitz, President Trumps 2020 Campaign Manager Brad Parscale called for the firing of AG Jeff Sessions and the ending of the Mueller investigation.

Trump Cabinets Bible Study Minister Justifies Child Separation as Consequence of Immigrants Illegal Behavior The Intercept

Amid increasing scrutiny of President Donald Trumps hard-line immigration policies, criticisms have been lodged against the policy of family separation at the border by, among others, members of his own party and otherwise stalwart Christian right allies of the GOP. One Christian ally of the White House, though, came out swinging in favor of taking children away from their parents: Capitol Ministries.

Ralph Drollinger, the head of the private Christian group, which leads Bible study sessions for Republican lawmakers and senior members of Trumps Cabinet, led the charge to defend the administration even as photos and stories emerge showing children crowded into cages and snatched from their mothers.

It follows that when someone breaks the law of the land that they should anticipate that one of the consequences of their illegal behavior will be separation from their children.

No one, especially my personal friend, the kind-hearted Attorney General Jeff Sessions, desires that a mother or father be separated from their children, wrote Drollinger, in a message to supporters on Friday. But, the Capitol Ministries leader said, there are three classifications of people in every country, as was true in ancient Israel in the Old Testament. In Drollingers interpretation, there are citizens, legal immigrants, and foreigners the latter were known as being illegal, he said and the Bible only forbids family separation for citizens and legal immigrants.

It follows that when someone breaks the law of the land that they should anticipate that one of the consequences of their illegal behavior will be separation from their children, Drollinger wrote. Such is the case with thieves or murderers who are arrested and put in jail.

Sessions attracted controversy after citing a Bible verse to defend the administrations zero-tolerance border enforcement strategy. I would cite you to the Apostle Paul and his clear and wise command in Romans 13, to obey the laws of the government because God has ordained the government for his purposes, the attorney general declared during a speech in Fort Wayne, Indiana, last Thursday.

HOROWITZ DROPS BOMBSHELL: Hillary Clinton Was Not Formally Under FBI Investigation at Any Time in 2015-2016 The Gateway Pundit

On Tuesday, Inspector General Michael Horowitz testified in a joint Congressional hearing to the House Oversight and House Judiciary panels about his review of the FBIs (mis)handling of the Clinton email investigation.

House Oversight Chairman Trey Gowdy (R-SC) came out swinging Tuesday in a a joint hearing held by the House Oversight and House Judiciary Committees.

Gowdy ripped into Comey in his opening statement, stating, we cant survive with a justice system we dont trust.

Investigative journalist Paul Sperry reported Horowitz dropped a bombshell in his testimony.

Horowitz revealed the FBI never named a target or even a subject in the Clinton email probe!

Sperry tweeted: BREAKING: IG Horowitz revealed in Senate testimony FBI never named a target or even subject in Clinton probe. Not Mills, Abedin, Combetta or Clinton herself. Nobody was listed as a subject of this investigation at any point in time, adding this was surprising for a crim probe

Union-Busting by Planned Parenthood in Colorado DownWithTyranny!

A shadow from a chain link fence falls across the Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains (source)

by Gaius Publius

Planned Parenthood, via its Action Fund (PAC), is one of the cornerstones of the Democratic coalition, both in standing up for the Democratic Party and being stood up for by the Democratic Party.

The national Action Fund has come under fire in intra-Party disputes. It endorsed Hillary Clinton over Bernie Sanders while admitting that "both [are] good on reproductive health." That's certainly a choice they get to make.

In addition, they made sure Sanders came under their fire when he called Planned Parenthood (meaning the Action Fund, not the health care organization) "part of the establishment":
Planned Parenthood and other progressive groups are calling out Bernie Sanders for referring to them as "part of the establishment," saying the Vermont senator needs to show a more explicit commitment to women's reproductive health.

"It's a little ridiculous to call an organization Congress and Republican presidential candidates have spent six months attacking establishment especially when Planned Parenthood health centers are out there every day ensuring millions of often marginalized Americans have access to basic reproductive health care, Dawn Laguens, executive vice president of Planned Parenthood Action Fund told POLITICO in an email.
Notice the switch in terms: The Action Fund, which was criticized for its political leanings in an intra-Party dispute, claimed Sanders didn't show enough of support for the non-political health care part of the organization all while the Action Fund, in its Clinton endorsement, was praising Sanders as just as good on reproductive health issues as Clinton....

From Our UK Adorable Deplorables: Brexit Update and Working to Make Britain Great Again The Gateway Pundit

From our friends in the UK: Brexit update and trying to Make Britain Great Again

Guest post by Janice Atkinson

Hello my US cousins, I wish the UK had a leader like your president.

Instead we have a weak, indecisive, accidental prime minister in Theresa May. Weak because she cannot control her government, indecisive because no one knows what she stands for (a quote by Brexit Secretary David Davis, to me some years ago, and is still true today, particularly over Brexit), and accidental because the two front-runners in the prime ministerial race, Michael Gove and Boris Johnson had a public spat, caused by the formers wife, which saw Mrs May rise from failed home secretary to prime minister. And shes been a disaster ever since.

If we had Brexit supporting President Trump at the negotiating table with the European Union, the art of the deal would have been struck by now. He would have taken the unelected and undemocratic Eurocrats into a private room devoid of spin doctors and government flunkies traded a deal and then announced it to the waiting press corps, just like with Kim in Sing.

President Trump would know that he had the upper hand in the Brexit negotiations. He would lay it out bare: you sell us more goods than we sell to you, our budget deficit is too high and we need to get it down, immigration is at a tipping point no more migrants, your liberal left governments are collapsing all over Europe in favour of my friends, the populists, were closing our borders so you had better build your walls to keep the terrorists out and, by the way, weve got 30 odd countries queuing up to do free trade deals with us. Deal done, a free trade deal in goods and services, benefitting both sides.

Yet Mrs May is allowing the Eurocrats to run rings around us with no Brexit Blueprint even though we voted to Leave two years ago and shes meeting the heads of the EU governments in a couple of weeks. Can you imagine your president going into a lions den like that? Did I mention she voted to Remain and stay shackled to the EU?

Then there is our antiquated, outdated and undemocratic House of Lords that is trying to stop Brexit. The House of Lords in its hey day was a debating and thoughtful amending chamber with representatives who were enobled because they had expertise in many areas. Now it is stuffed full of party apparatchiks, failed former MPs, party donors and friends of Tony Blair, David Cameron and someone called Nick Clegg, who was deputy prime minister under Cameron, all of whom are trying to thwart the peo...

Blue Wave Headed Toward Florida? DownWithTyranny!

The last attempt to fix some of Florida's severe gerrymandering problems created a new district up north, the fifth, that connects most of Tallahassee with most of Jacksonville and goes as far west into the panhandle as Chattahoochee. The PVI is D+12. Hillary eviscerated Trump here, 61.3% to 35.9%, Trump's worst performance in northern Florida. The first congressman elected from the new district was conservative Democrat Al Lawson, former "dean" of the state Senate.

ProgressivePunch, which grades him "F" shows that he, Blue Dogs Stephanie Murphy and Charlie Crist has the worst voting records of any Florida Democrats. A New Dem, he has the 9th worst voting record among House Democrats, made worse by the fact that he represents a deep blue Democratic district.

Normally we would over the moon that anyone as far to the right as Lawson has a primary challenge. Unfortunately his challenger, Alvin Brown, is another conservative Democrat. When Brown was elected mayor of Jacksonville in 2011 he became the first African-American mayor in Jacksonville's history and the first Democrat to be elected to the position since 1991. He was so conserative that many Democrats didn't bother coming out to the polls in 2015 and he was defeated for re-election by Republican Lenny Curry. So... yes, Al Lawson is absolutely terrible. But is it worth replacing him with someone likely to be almost as bad (if not just as bad)? Especially when a new Gravis poll showed much better news coming out of Florida this week.

The much better news is that the progressive running for governor, Andrew Gillum, is now leading in the primary and leading any Republican running for the nomination! Polling was conducted between May 31 and June 15. It found that "Florida voters are to the left of center. ...

Are Trump's Concentration Camps For Immigrant Children Going To Further Damage The GOP Brand? DownWithTyranny!

He has a lot of influence in the Vatican and it's worth reading between the lines in the tweet storm above. It's also worth reading Barbara Bush's Washington Post OpEd from Sunday night, Laura Bush: Separating children from their parents at the border breaks my heart. "I live in a border state," she wrote. "I appreciate the need to enforce and protect our international boundaries, but this zero-tolerance policy is cruel. It is immoral. And it breaks my heart. Our government should not be in the business of warehousing children in converted box stores or making plans to place them in tent cities in the desert outside of El Paso. These images are eerily reminiscent of the Japanese American internment camps of World War II, now considered to have been one of the most shameful episodes in U.S. history... "Americans pride ourselves on being a moral nation, on being the nation that sends humanitarian relief to places devastated by natural disasters or famine or war. We pride ourselves on believing that people should be seen for the content of their character, not the color of their skin. We pride ourselves on acceptance. If we are truly that country, then it is our obligation to reunite these detained children with their parents-- and to stop separating parents and children in the first place."

A few hours earlier White House communications director Stephanie Grisham announced that Melania "hates to see children separated from their families and hopes both sides of the aisle can finally come together to achieve successful immigration reform. She believes we need to be a country that follows all laws, but also a country that governs with heart." Both sides of the aisle? Really. Her husband,...

Berkeley Jury finds Antifa NOT GUILTY of Violent Beating of Trump Supporter Despite Multiple Witnesses! The Gateway Pundit

Remember the Antifa riots in Berkeley back in 2017?

At one of the rallies, several firefighters and police officers personally witnessed at close range a mob of Antifa rioters violently attack a guy who was just sitting on a wall; the attackers would have killed the man if the cops had not interrupted the attack and arrested a few of them.

Well, just a few hours ago, after an outrageous trial filled with the most insane and illegal behavior by courtroom attendees AND by the judge, who allowed an endless series of mistrial-worthy courtroom incidents every single day, the jury just found all the Antifa attackers NOT GUILTY mainly because the victim was a Trump voter, thus a Bad Man, and thus deserving of getting beaten to within an inch of his life.

Read it here and weep.

The article is immensely long, but it describes perhaps the most mind-numbingly unfair kangaroo court trial ever enacted on United States soil.

Even the freakin PROSECUTOR (whose job it supposedly was to convict the Antifa attackers) described the victim as repulsive and dislikable based entirely on the slanders spread by BAMN and Antifa.

Meanwhile the judge allowed Antifa and BAMN to pack every seat in the courtroom every day, where they constantly booed, and hissed and held up banners and interrupted witnesses, etc. The entire trial was a circus and the judge never once stopped it or threatened a mistrial! Completely insane. Antifa members even stalked the jurors and yelled threats and lies at them during the trial! Mind-boggling.

Anyway, read the whole article for the details. Steam will come out of your ears.

This is justice in a liberal Berkeley.

Family Separation in America bensozia

One of the worst American policies today is the decision of President Donald Trumps administration to separate many immigrant parents from their children after they illegally cross the U.S. border. Obviously, a case can be made for enforcing the border, but deliberate cruelty is never a good idea. Those children innocent victims all of them will likely be traumatized for life. I am uncomfortably reminded of the U.S.s long history of separating parents and children from the days of slavery and during Native American removal and extermination.

If you agree with me on this, Id like to push you one step further. It's horrible to forcibly separate lawbreaking parents from their children, but we do that to American citizens, too. According to  one study, more than 1.1 million men and 120,000 women in U.S. jails and prisons have children under the age of 17. These separations can be traumatic, and they help perpetuate generational cycles of low achievement and criminal behavior.

From 1991 to 2007, the number of children with a mother in prison more than doubled, rising 131 percent. About two-thirds of the women in state prisons are there for nonviolent offenses. Sixty percent of those women have children under the age of 18, and in one survey one-quarter of the prisoners children were under the age of 4. Forty-one percent of the women in state prison had more than one childOne estimate suggests that 11 percent of the children of imprisoned mothers end up in foster care. . . .

Lets take one-tenth of those women and move them from prison to house arrest, combined with electronic monitoring. That would allow for proximity to their children. If the U.S. isnt plagued by a subsequent wave of violent crime and I dont think it will be let us try the same for yet another tenth. Lets keep on doing this until its obviously not working.

Politics and Sham Philosophy bensozia

Every philosophy that believes the problem of existence to be shelved, or even solved, by a political event, is a sham philosophy. There have been innumerable states founded since the beginning of the world; that is an old story. How should a political innovation manage once and for all to make a contented race of the dwellers on this earth? If anyone believes in his heart that this is possible, he should report himself to our authorities: he really deserves to be Professor of Philosophy.

An Man of the Aristocracy Contemplates Democracy bensozia

When I survey this countless multitude of beings, shaped in each others likeness, amidst whom nothing rises and nothing falls, the sight of such universal uniformity saddens and chills me, and I am tempted to regret that state of society which has ceased to be. When the world was full of men of great importance and extreme insignificance, of great wealth and extreme poverty, of great learning and extreme ignorance, I turned aside from the latter to fix my observation on the former alone, who gratified my sympathies. But I admit that this gratification arose from my own weakness: it is because I am unable to see at once all that is around me, that I am allowed thus to select and separate the objects of my predilection from among so many others. Such is not the case with that almighty and eternal Being whose gaze necessarily includes the whole of created things, and who surveys distinctly, though at once, mankind and man. We may naturally believe that it is not the singular prosperity of the few, but the greater well-being of all, which is most pleasing in the sight of the Creator and Preserver of men. What appears to me to be mans decline, is to His eye advancement; what afflicts me is acceptable to Him. A state of equality is perhaps less elevated, but it is more just; and its justice constitutes its greatness and its beauty. I would strive then to raise myself to this point of the divine contemplation, and thence to view and to judge the concerns of me.

Mike Pence is waiting in the wings. For all we know, he is the biggest leaker in the Trumpanzee administration but he's also just another in a long, long line of typical Republican douchebags and worse. You can bet he shares his boss's envy of dictators who kill journalists with impunity. After all, his desire to torture our gay brothers and sisters is proud public knowledge. Ripping babies from their mothers arms? Yeah, that too. Perhaps the only differences between Pence and Trump are Pence's alcohol intake and his religious fervor or, call it what it is, religious insanity.

Pence, like most of his kind, will tell you that he believes in what he perversely calls "the sanctity of life" but if you, embrace those who blow up places where a woman can get an abortion, those who kill journalists, and those who steal babies, then you are no different than those you envy who do the same. Republicans will point at ISIS but really, the only difference is opportunity. Fanaticism is fanaticism. Just give them a little more time. In fact, we don't need ISIS. Yes, they are dangerous, but American has proven before that it can come up with its own version.

Trump Directs Pentagon to Create Space Force, After Obama Gutted NASA for Feel Good Muslim Outreach Project (VIDEO) The Gateway Pundit

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration was preparing to take Americans back to the Moon and on to Marsuntil President Obama took office.

Obama crippled NASAs efforts to send astronauts beyond low Earth orbit without international assistance and needed the help of allies to make it to Mars.

The former president redirected Americas space agency from pioneering the future in space exploration and scientific discovery to advancing his so-called social justice agenda push radical global warming extremism and Muslim outreach.

Obama directed NASA administrator Charles Bolden to make Muslim outreach a top priority for the agency.

President Trump is in the process of restoring Americas space exploration program to its former glory.

The president announced Monday that he is directing the Pentagon to establish the Space Force as a sixth branch to join the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps and Coast Guard dedicated to protecting American interests in outer space.

When it comes to defending America, it is not enough to merely have an American presence in space. We must have American dominance in space, the president declared in the White House East Room in a meeting of the National Space Council. Very importantly, Im hereby directing the Department of Defense and Pentagon to immediately begin the process necessary to establish the Space Force as the sixth branch of the armed forces.

We are going to have the Air Force and we are going to have the Space Force: separate but equal, it is going to be something so important, he said.

The initiative, Trump explained, would protect American interests in space through monitoring commercial traffic and debris and would be great not only in terms of jobs and everything else, its great for the psyche of our country.

Trump tasked Gen. Joseph F. Dunford Jr., the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, with the undertaking of creating the additional branch of the military.

James Woods Has Perfect Response to Crooked Hillarys Faux Outrage Over Trumps Immigration Policy The Gateway Pundit

Hillary Clinton unleashed a Twitter rant Monday showing faux outrage over an immigration policy that separates illegal alien children from their parents at the border.

Hillary Clinton has no room to talk; she should sit this one out.

Hillary Clinton, one of the most corrupt, criminal liars to ever hold public office in this country had the nerve to cite a Bible verse and beg for money from her Twitter account to fight against current immigration laws that separate illegal alien children from parents at the border.

This exact law was in place during the Obama years, but now since Trump is president, it is suddenly a humanitarian crisis and Republicans are evil for allowing it to happen.

We have no definitive proof the children are even related to the adults they show up with at the border which only encourages child trafficking.

In fact, Saagar Enjeti from The Daily Caller reports, single males with children are increasingly arriving. Neither the child nor the adult can answer basic questions about each other, authorities suspect rampant fraud.

Hillary Clinton tweeted: Like so many others, I am horrified and heartbroken by what is happening to immigrant kids and families because of this administrations disastrous policies.

Right. Hillary Clinton is horrified and heartbroken.

What Is Democracy Anyway? LewRockwell

In a TAC commentary last month, Robert Merry responded to a lament by Brookings Institution fellow William Galston in The New Republic about an anti-democratic populist wave sweeping across Europe. In light of the ascent of a Euroskeptic coalition in Italy and the recent impressive electoral win by conservative nationalist Viktor Orbn and his Fidesz Party in Hungary, Galston believes that democracy has suffered a fateful setback:

The global democratic tide which began in 1974 with the end of Portugals authoritarian regime crested in 2006, making way for anti-democratic populists. Many Western leaders have yet to come to terms with this new reality, hoping that anti-immigrant sentiment is just a passing phenomenon.

Merry addresses these complaints by pointing out that its not democracy but elites that have failed. There is after all no reason to assess the success of democratic government by how many Syrian migrants European countries take in or keep out. Democracy is about caring for ones citizens, not turning over ones cities to a mass of humanity from the Middle East. Nor is there anything intrinsically undemocratic about citizens in Hungary or Italy voting for officials who reflect their views on immigration. Why is it undemocratic to disagree with Galston, the Brookings Institution, or The New Republic? Are we supposed to be grading countries for democratic good conduct by how often their wishes coincide with the preferences of globalist elites?

That said, the matter under discussion may be more complicated than the above observations would suggest. There is no single operative concept of democracy. William Galston and those he attacks give dramatically different meanings to the same term; their conflicting understandings were already present when modern democracies took shape. As the franchise was extended and universalized in most Western countries in the early 20th century, the effect was not to limit government. It was rather to expand its reach in the form of public administration.

A common error, as I tried to show in my book After Liberalism, is to imagine that the defense of private property and other liberal freedoms develop contemporaneously with democracy. In fact, they precede democracy by many generations and are more characteristic of 19th century bourgeois liberalism than they are of the ensuing democratic age. The newly enfranchised people in the 20th century voted for governments and parties that provided social programs; th...

Why Cant We Sue the TSA? LewRockwell

When I was in Congress and had to regularly fly between DC and Texas, I was routinely subjected to invasive pat-downs (physical assaults) by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). One time, exasperated with the constant insults to my privacy and dignity, I asked a TSA agent if he was proud to assault innocent Americans for a living.

I thought of this incident after learning that the TSA has been compiling a troublesome passengers list. The list includes those who have engaged in conduct judged to be offensive and without legal justification or disruptive of the safe and effective completion of screening. Libertarian journalist James Bovard recently pointed out that any woman who pushed a screeners hands away from her breasts could be accused of disrupting the safe and effective completion of screening. Passengers like me who have expressed offense at TSA screeners are likely on the troublesome passengers list.

Perhaps airline passengers should start keeping a list of troublesome TSA agents. The list could include those who forced nursing mothers to drink their own breast milk, those who forced sick passengers to dispose of cough medicine, and those who forced women they found attractive to go through a body scanner multiple times. The list would certainly include the agents who confiscated a wheelchair-bound three-year-olds beloved stuffed lamb at an airport and threatened to subject her to a pat-down. The girl, who was at the airport with her family to take a trip to Disney World, was filmed crying that she no longer wanted to go to Disney World.

The TSA is effective at violating our liberty, but it is ineffective at protecting our security. Last year, the TSAs parent agency, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), conducted undercover tests of the TSAs ability or detect security threats at airports across the country. The results showed the TSA staff and equipment failed to uncover threats 80 percent of the time. This is not the first time the TSA has been revealed to be incompetent. An earlier DHS study fund TSA screenings and even the invasive pat-downs were utterly ineffective at finding hidden weapons.

The TSAs security theater of treating every passenger as a criminal suspect while doing nothing to stop real threats is a rational response to the incentives the TSA faces as a government agency. If the TSA puts up an appearance of diligently working to prevent another 9/11 by inconveniencing and even assaulting as many travelers as possible, Congress will assume the agency is doing its job and keep increasing the TSAs budget. Because the TSA gets its revenue from Congress, not from airline passengers, the agency has no reason to concern itself with customer satisfaction and feels free to harass and assault people, as well as to make lists of people who stand up for their rights.

Taxation = Theft LewRockwell

Theft is defined as the taking of another persons property or services without that persons permission or consent.

Almost invariably, governments pass tax laws and set tax rates without any consultation with the citizenry. Further, no final approval is sought by the citizenry that they consent to the tax or the rates. It is simply imposed.

Most of us tend not to regard taxation as theft, yet, by definition, thats exactly what it is.

But some countries, notably the US, go further in disguising the theft, by stating that the payment of tax is voluntary. I personally am not aware of a single instance in which an individual or corporation decided not to pay a tax and, if discovered, was allowed to go unpunished. A typical penalty is a fine equal to the tax amount, plus compounded interest on both the tax and the fine. Such a condition is anything but voluntary.

The US also has a tradition of treating the payment of tax as being patriotic. Avoiding tax is deemed unpatriotictherefore, citizens should take pride in paying tax and, in fact, many Americans do claim that theyre proud to pay tax. It would also seem likely that some resent taxation, but want to appear patriotic, whilst others truly wear taxation as a hair shirt with pride.

However, if we define taxation as what it istheftit would be far less likely that either of these factions would be taking this position. After all, no one takes pride in being robbed.

Some countries (again, notably the US) describe tax havens as jurisdictions that seek to undermine the tax regimes of other jurisdictions. As such, the havens are harassed and threatened by the latter and referred to as criminal money-laundering centres.

Well, lets clear the air on that one while were at it.

A tax haven is quite simply a jurisdiction that has a low-tax or no-tax regime. It either steals less of peoples money than high-tax jurisdictions, or steals none of their money.

Its ironic that the US is at the forefront of persecuting tax havens, as the US came about in 1776 as the result of abusive taxation by King George of England. (At that time, the king was demanding a whopping 2% in tax, and colonists were outraged.)

The US is most certainly no longer the home of the American ideal. In fact, its slowly morphed to become the exact opposite. If any of the American founding fathers were to re-appear today, they could be forgiven if they were to say, I dont think were in America anymore, Toto.

Yet the US, along with the EU, OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development), and others, has repeatedly applied pressure to tax havens and has threatened or imposed economic sanctions against them.

But, why should this be? After all, most tax havens exist in small countries where depositors are simply being offered a good deal. And, its important to note that what they offer is in no...

Automated Cars LewRockwell

Automated cars are being pushed on us harder than crystal meth in a West Virginia trailer park by a tag team of the government apparat (which salivates at the prospect of heightened control over our movements) and a car industry which is becoming indistinguishable from the government, except that it wants to profit from all this controlling.

Automated cars are complex cars and that means expensive cars. It also means ride-sharing/renting of cars (perpetual payments) rather than owning them, which the car industry sees as a new growth opportunity for its business. Much more money in that than selling people $15,000 Corollas driven by them.

The good news if you prefer not to be controlled is that automated cars are still a long way off. They will probably not be able to force us into them for another several decades and maybe with any luck never.

So, breathe easy.

Yes, its true that elements of automated car technology are already on the road. Many new cars can park themselves, partially steer themselves and stop (and accelerate) themselves. But only some of the time, under certain conditions and with the ironic proviso that the driver must always be ready to step in.

In which case, what is the point of this automated car technology? Either the technology is competent enough to drive the car all the time or the driver must be competent to drive and ready to drive all the time.

Otherwise, its like sugar that isnt sweet.

If the driver must be competent and ready to drive all the time, then the automated technology is essentially useless. Worse than useless, actually. Because it promotes incompetent, inattentive driving as witness the recent several crashes of auto-piloted cars, which either ran into things or ran people over because the person behind the wheel we wont call him a driver was not driving.

But in such a case, who is responsible for the crash? Is it the automated car or the person behind the wheel?

Who will pay?

The liability problems are probably more of an obstacle to automated cars ever being more than a technocratic wet dream than the technology problems. In a fully automated car scenario, the cars occupants no more drivers, in expectation or otherwise cannot be faulted for what the car does. Or what it doesnt do. If it runs into a concrete barrier or fails to not run over a child by swerving off the road and into a barrier instead who gets the ticket?

Who gets sued?

The JFK Assassination LewRockwell

About a decade ago, I got a Netflix subscription and was amazed that the Internet now provided immediate access to so many thousands of movies on my own computer screen. But after a week or two of heavy use and the creation of a long watch-list of prospective films Id always wanted to see, my workload gained the upper hand, and I mostly abandoned the system.

Back then, nearly all Netflix content was licensed from the major studios and depending upon contract negotiations might annually disappear, so when I happened to browse my account again in December, I noticed that a couple of films on my selection list included warning notices saying they would no longer be available on January 1st. One of these was Oliver Stones famous 1991 film JFK, which had provoked quite a stir at the time, so thinking now or never, I clicked the Play button, and spent three hours that evening watching the Oscar winner.

Most of the plot seemed bizarre and outlandish to me, with the presidents killing in Dallas supposedly having been organized by a cabal of militantly anti-Communist homosexuals, somehow connected with both the CIA and the mafia, but based in New Orleans. Kevin Costner starred as a crusading District Attorney named Jim Garrisonpresumably fictionalwhose investigation broke the assassination conspiracy wide open before the subtle tentacles of the Deep State finally managed to squelch his prosecution; or at least thats what I vaguely remember from my single viewing. With so many implausible elements, the film confirmed my belief in the wild imagination of Hollywood scriptwriters and also demonstrated why no one with any common sense had ever taken seriously those ridiculous JFK conspiracy theories.

Despite its dramatic turns, the true circumstances of President John F. Kennedys death seemed an island of sanity by comparison. Lee Harvey Oswald, a disgruntled young marine had defected to the USSR in 1959 and finding life behind the Iron Curtain equally unsatisfactory, returned to America a couple of years later. Still having confused Marxist sympathies, hed joined public protests supporting Fidel Castros Cuba, and gradually turning toward violence, purchased a mail-order rifle. During the presidential visit, he had fired three shots from the Dallas School Book Depository, killing JFK, and was quickly apprehended by the local police. Soon, he too was dead, shot by an outraged Kennedy supporter named Jack Ruby. All these sad facts were later confirmed by the Warren Commission in DC, presided over by the U.S. Chief Justice together with some of Americas most respected public figures, and their voluminous report ran nearly 900 pages.

Yet although the film seemed to have affixed an enormous mass of incoheren...

Crossing the 16% Chasm LewRockwell

The big news of the week is that German Chancellor Angela Merkel is facing the toughest challenge to her long political career from within her own Union party coalition over immigration.

My latest article at Strategic Culture talks about why this issue is so divisive and why it has a real chance to topple Merkels rule.

Immigration is not simply a political asset to be horse-traded by leaders in the legislature. Someone should teach Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer this before the Democratic Party goes the way of the dodo.

It cuts too deeply into peoples personal identity and their sense of community and culture. Like it or not, people tend to seek out people like them.

We are hard-wired for this. And the cultural Marxists pushing for George Soros vision of the Open Society are bumping up against one of the most basic of human biases and survival instincts. Demonizing and dehumanizing people for political gain is not a path of societal cohesion but rather violence and civil war.

It is for this reason that movements like Brexit and the rise of both nominally left and right wing populists in Italy were able to take power.  People respond instinctually to this issue.  This is hind brain stuff and not easily overcome.

Whether Merkel survives this challenge or not is up to her.  If she digs her heels in and tries to break CSU Leader Horst Seehofers opposition to her EU-first immigration policy then it will lead to a further fracturing of the German political landscape in the long run.

She may hold onto power for now only to lose the war permanently in the future.

The 16% Lesson of Brexit

But, not all populist uprisings are created equal.  As we can see in the U.K., Brexit drove the rise of UKIP as Tories defected on the issue of immigration.  But, not on much else.  And once the Brexit vote happened, and UKIP were polling in the 10-12% range, the main reason for voting UKIP evaporated.

Nigel Farage stepped down, UKIP lost its leadership, and the voters protest was over.  Tories went back home and are now being betrayed in parliament by their MPs.

This is the blueprint for how NOT to pull off a major political revolution.  And the U.K. will learn that lesson the hard way unless something drastic happens soon, like the ouster of Prime Minister Theresa May and a pro-Brexit replacement elected.

The problem for UKIP was never crossing the 16% threshold from protest movement to self-sustaining party.

Everett Rogers Diffusion of Innovation Theory is applicable to politics as well as products.  The idea being that it takes around 16% adoption for a new technology, ideology, etc. to have the potential to become something bigger.   This was made popular by Malcolm Gladwell in his book...

Coercion LewRockwell

Its worth checking out the YouTube video of this years semi-annual Munk Debate held in Toronto this spring. The proposition at hand: Be it resolved, what you call political correctness, I call progress. For the pro position: Michael Eric Dyson, sociology prof from Georgetown U, and New York Times columnist Michelle Goldberg; on the con side, Jordan Peterson, psychologist and U of Toronto prof, and Stephen Fry, British actor and screenwriter.

The debate quickly beat a path to identity politics, which make up the actual substance of PC, itself only a method of conveying the substance. PC acts as a filter for sifting out thought that doesnt conform to orthodox ideology, and for punishing those who dare to express the filtered-out ideas. So, PC only allows for a narrow range of expressed opinion on identity politics. PC is literally thought-policing. Its hard to imagine anyone being in favor of that, which is exactly why PC behavior is so odious to those of us who value free speech.

The orthodox view in identity politics these days is that white male cis-heterosexual patriarchal privilege is responsible for the discontents of women and people-of-color a squishy, mischievous category which obviously doesnt count Chinese grad students at Harvard or the Asian-Indians in the Silicon Valley C-suites and demands reparations of one kind or another.

Mr. Peterson laid it out nicely: identity politics assigns everyone to ethnic, racial, and sexual groups, and all the human relations among them amount to never-ending battles for political power. Nothing else matters. Individuals especially dont matter, only the group. And no group has abused its power more than European white men.

This animating idea comes out of the mid-20th century post-structural critical theorists Jacques Derrida and Michel Foucault, whose Marxian views emerged conveniently at a time when women and non-white people were vying for departmental chairs in the college humanities and social science programs, and thus have two generations been indoctrinated.

Well, if human relations are solely about power, than exercising power over others is all that matters. Hence, the key to identity politics: its all about coercion, making others do your will by threat of force and force itself. These days, the main threat is depriving heretics and apostates of their livelihood. Thats what happened to Brett Weinstein at Evergreen U in Washington State last year, and to Jordan Peterson himself at the U of Toronto, when he objected loudly and publicly to a new Canadian federal law that sought to punish citizens who refused to use the new menu of personal pronouns for the rapidly multiplying new gender categories (e.g. ze, zir, they, xem, nem, hir, nir.)

Both Weinstein and Peterson refused to be coerced and found themselves inadvertently...

Far Cry LewRockwell

Its a far cry from the world we thought wed inherit
Its a far cry from the way we thought wed share it

        Far Cry, Rush

What happened to the promise of classical liberalism, passing from its birth through its golden age and to its dramatic and violent death in little more than one century? Exploring the topics of culture, tradition, and liberty inherently involves an exploration of this question.

One day I feel Im on top of the world
And the next its falling in on me

The question is tackled by Robert Nisbet in his book The Quest for Community: A Study in the Ethics of Order and Freedom.

It is impossible to understand the massive concentrations of political power in the twentieth century, appearing so paradoxically, as it has seemed, right after a century and a half of individualism in economics and morals, unless we see clearly the close relationship that prevailed all through the nineteenth century between individualism and State power and between both of these together and the general weakening of the area of association that lies intermediate to man and the State.

It was the flowering of individualism an outcome of Enlightenment thought that made possible the power of the State.

It is worth noting that some see a difference in classical liberalism as it developed in Britain as opposed to its development in France.  Friedrich Hayek was one of these; another was Francis Lieber:

In 1848, Francis Lieber distinguished between what he called Anglican and Gallican Liberty. Lieber asserted that independence in the highest degree, compatible with safety and broad national guarantees of liberty, is the great aim of Anglican liberty, and self-reliance is the chief source from which it draws its strength. On the other hand, Gallican liberty is sought in governmentthe French look for the highest degree of political civilization in organizational, that is, in the highest degree of interference by public power.

While the differences must be appreciated, it seems to me that Nisbet is working through the commonalities.  From the Anglican: independence in the highest degree, broad national guarantees of liberty. From the Gallican: highest degree of interference by public power.

This was a two-fold emancipation:

[First, emancipation] of the individual from his traditi...

On Trumps Madness LewRockwell

Way back in 1995, when Mexico was in the throes of another financial crisis, I figured out the problem of the existing worlds monetary system, based on the paper dollar as the fundamental currency of the world.

In my ignorance, I did not know that a man named Triffin had already pointed out that problem, which became known as Triffins Dilemma.

The problem is really very simple:

If the dollar such as it is is going to be the basis of the worlds monetary system, and therefore required by all Central Banks as Reserves, there is only one way that these CBs can obtain those Reserves: their countries are forced to undersell all US producers, in order to be able to sell more to the US, than they buy from the US.

The difference between the dollars they get from sales, is more, than the dollars they spend to buy from the US. That difference known as the US Trade Deficit flows to the CBs of the world and swells their Reserves.

So if Mr. Trump wants to cut down, or even ideally abolish the Trade Deficit, that would mean that foreign CBs would have to find it much harder to obtain dollars for their Reserves. Mr. Trump apparently does not want to have foreign CBs use dollars as Reserves, by making it very difficult to obtain those dollars which they can only get if the US runs a Trade Deficit.

What that great world monetary system based on the paper dollar has done to the US, was quite unexpected: it consists in obtaining foreign goods by tendering paper money in payment, something that is fundamentally fraudulent. And that fraud has come back to haunt the US, quite unexpectedly.

The unexpected result of Triffins (or Hugos) Dilemma, has been the de-industrialization of the US, as the world geared up to undersell all US producers wherever they could do so, in order to obtain the indispensable US Dollars.

Mr. Trump is wildly alienating all the rest of the world, with the threat of Tariffs in order to reduce the Trade Deficit. What he does not understand, is that the Trade Deficit is built-in to the US economy, because the worlds CBs need Dollars for their Reserves: that is the System.

Julian Assange LewRockwell

The persecution of Julian Assange must end. Or it will end in tragedy.

The Australian government and prime minister Malcolm Turnbull have an historic opportunity to decide which it will be.

They can remain silent, for which history will be unforgiving. Or they can act in the interests of justice and humanity and bring this remarkable Australian citizen home.

Assange does not ask for special treatment. The government has clear diplomatic and moral obligations to protect Australian citizens abroad from gross injustice: in Julians case, from a gross miscarriage of justice and the extreme danger that await him should he walk out of the Ecuadorean embassy in London unprotected.

We know from the Chelsea Manning case what he can expect if a U.S. extradition warrant is successful a United Nations Special Rapporteur called it torture.

I know Julian Assange well; I regard him as a close friend, a person of extraordinary resilience and courage. I have watched a tsunami of lies and smear engulf him, endlessly, vindictively, perfidiously; and I know why they smear him.

In 2008, a plan to destroy both WikiLeaks and Assange was laid out in a top secret document dated 8 March, 2008. The authors were the Cyber Counter-intelligence Assessments Branch of the U.S. Defence Department. They described in detail how important it was to destroy the feeling of trust that is WikiLeaks centre of gravity.

This would be achieved, they wrote, with threats of exposure [and] criminal prosecution and a unrelenting assault on reputation. The aim was to silence and criminalise WikiLeaks and its editor and publisher. It was as if they planned a war on a single human being and on the very principle of freedom of speech.

Vichy Media

Their main weapon would be personal smear. Their shock troops would be enlisted in the media those who are meant to keep the record straight and tell us the truth.

The irony is that no one told these journalists what to do. I call them Vichy journalists after the Vichy government that served and enabled the German occupation of wartime France.

Last October, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation journalist Sarah Ferguson interviewed Hillary Clinton, over whom she fawned as the icon for your generation.

This was the same Clinton who threatened to obliterate totally Iran and, who, as U.S. secretary of State in 2011, was one of the instigators of the invasion and destruction of Libya as a modern state, with the loss of 40,000 lives. Like the invasion of Iraq, it was based on lies.

When the Libyan President was murdered publicly and gruesomely with a knife, Clinton was filmed whooping and cheering. Thanks largely to her, Libya became a breeding ground fo...

Americas Armageddon Bunkers LewRockwell

These astonishing images offer a glimpse inside the bunkers built by the United States government that were designed to withstand a nuclear war.

Though officials keep the details of the countrys post-doomsday planning classified, evidence of their decades-long effort some abandoned, some active are hidden in plain sight around Washington DC, and beyond.

In Washington terminology, its known as continuity of government, or COG and its meant to ensure that America continues to operate as a constitutional democracy with its leadership visible to the nation and its military able to defend the US against all enemies, foreign and domestic.

It was first developed during the Truman Administration, in the early days of nuclear weapons development. COG measures expanded greatly during the Cold War.

The US government built secret doomsday bunkers for federal employees in Virginia, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania.

They constructed nuclear-hardened communications towers throughout the Washington region, so the White House could reach other top-level survivors.

And they also developed weaponry with second-strike capability that would launch post-doomsday to prevent further attacks, a strategy known as mutually assured destruction, or MAD.

The site of a former nuclear bunker known as Mount Pony, where the Federal Reserve secretly stockpiled billions of dollars in cash, which they planned to use to replenish currency supplies in the wake of Armageddon, in Culpeper, Virginia. In 2007, the facility was converted to the Library of Congress Packard Campus for Audio-Visual Conservation; it now provides underground storage for the Librarys vast collection of films and audio recordings...

200 Ordinary Medications Cause Depression and Suicidal Thoughts LewRockwell

It would be difficult to overlook the epidemic of depression that has struck the United States over the past decades. The CDC recently found that death by suicide was up more than 30% and the use of antidepressants has vaulted 65% in the past 15 years.

There are many different theories about this increase. Everything from internet addiction to the Trump presidency to environmental causes has been blamed. Some believe its always been like this but that the stigma has lessened and more people are getting help.

But now theres one more possible cause that needs to be considered. New research has shown that more than 200 medications, both prescription and over-the-counter, can increase the likelihood of depression and depressive symptoms. And when two or more of these drugs are combined, the potential for depression increases even more.

And that isnt the end of the bad news. More than 1 in 3 Americans regularly take a medication linked to an increase in depression. Common treatments such as proton pump inhibitors (for acid reflux), beta blockers, anxiety medications, OTC painkillers, ACE inhibitors (for high blood pressure) and anticonvulsant medications can cause or increase depression.

Are you taking any of these medications linked to depression?

Heres the full list as per the study on JAMA.

These drugs can cause suicidal symptoms:

  • Analgesics (Acetaminophen/Tramadol, Hydropmorphone, Tapentadol, Tramadol)
  • Anticonvulsants (Carbamazepine, Clonazepam, Diazepam, Ethosuximide, Gabapentin, Lamotrigine, Levetiracetam, Lorazepam, Methsuximide, Oxcarbazepine, Phenytoin, Pregabalin, Topiramate, Valproic Acid, Zonisamide)

Solving The Country's Biggest Problem (Yes TRUMP, But Nothing To Do With Mueller) DownWithTyranny!

On Friday, writing for New York Magazine Andrew Sullivan found yet another way to call Seor Trumpanzee a liar: "making us all live in his delusional reality show." The ugly fascist swine "believes," wrote Sullivan, "what he wants to believe, creates a reality that fits his delusions, and then insists, with extraordinary energy and stamina, that his delusions are the truth. His psychological illness, moreover, is capable of outlasting anyone elses mental health. Objective reality that contradicts his delusions is discounted as 'fake news' propagated by 'our countrys greatest enemy,' i.e., reporters. If someone behaved like this in my actual life, if someone kept insisting that the sea was red and the sky green, Id assume they were a few sandwiches short of a picnic. Its vital for us to remember this every day: Almost no one else in public life is so openly living in his own disturbed world.

My friend Jerry Leichtling mentioned in passing the other day that "Trump said hed get Mexico to pay for the wall. He didnt say hed make them pay with their children." He added that "These refugees have nothing. And Trump is stealing their children as bargaining chips to gain funding for his wall. The President of the United States," which is what he calls Trump, "is trafficking in children." Raise your hand if you think Seor T has an iota of empathy. As Helen and I have explained dozens of times, Trump is the very definition of "Narcissistic Personality Disorder." And that's on display ever day in every way. Even those tariffs he just levied... who do you think is going to suffer most? Has there ever been a successful trade war? Yesterday the NY Times noted that as his filthy illegitimate regime "imposes tariffs on allies and rivals alike, provoking broad retaliation, global commerce is suffering disruption, flashing signs of strains that could hamper economic growth. DISGRACEFUL! AWOL Sessions Says He Will Let Rosenstein Continue to Oversee Mueller Witch Hunt Despite Conflicts (VIDEO) The Gateway Pundit

WHAT A DISGRACE!
AG Jeff Sessions went on with Laura Ingraham on Monday to discuss immigration and the Mueller witch hunt.

During their discussion Laura asked the AWOL Attorney General why he recused himself from the Trump-Russia collusion witch hunt for talking to the ambassador at cocktail parties but allows Rosenstein to oversee the witch hunt after he signed the fraudulent FISA memo to spy on Trump?

Heres his answer:

Laura Ingraham: Attorney General Sessions, just one more question. Are you involved at all in discussions about a possible recusal of Rod Rosenstein of overseeing Mueller given the fact that he did sign one of those FISA warrants and thats a big controversy in this case?

Jeff Sessions: I am not involved in that. He is the acting Attorney General for that matter and he has to make his own decision as I had to make my decision.

Thats dereliction of duty.
Jeff Sessions needs to be fired for the future of this country.

This guy is not up to the job of Attorney General.
What a disgrace.

WHAT DID I JUST WATCH? Pony Fetishists Converge For BDSM Festival (VIDEO) The Gateway Pundit

Ever feel the burning desire to don a leather horse outfit and let a human handler parade you around like an actual horse, all for the purposes of living out BDSM sexual fantasies?

If so, youll fit right in at one of the pony play festivals.

These events are very competitive, just like a regular horse show event, says one of the participants. The competition gets pretty crazy sometimes, he says, before explaining When ponies put on their gear, it puts them into what they call pony space.'

One gal explains how its a ritual to put on the gear, and how the ponies get into head space in order to properly act the part, and how the pony transitions from a human into a pony.

The video, featured on the Daily Mail facebook page, shows various different portions of the horse competitions, which include high jumping and agility.

One, uhh, competitor explains how he feels wild and free, and even kicks at the carts and buck around like a horse. Its a little unclear as to whether he is naked or wearing a bodysuit of some sort.

IT WAS A SET-UP: Trump Campaign Aide Reveals Mueller Knew More About FBI Informant Than He Did (VIDEO) The Gateway Pundit

The Deep State Spying Scandal on the Trump Campaign will go down as the largest political scandal in US history.

As Joe Hoft at The Gateway Pundit reported in May
At Least 6 and Potentially 7 Known and Suspected Intelligence Informants Accused of Spying on Trump Campaign

And now there are more.
Trump associates Roger Stone and Michael Caputo were approached by another FBI informant during their campaign in the Deep States quest to tie Donald Trump to Putins Russia.

And once again neither of them took the bait.

On Monday Michael Caputo joined Sean Hannity to discuss his run-in with the FBI informant.

Michael Caputo: When I spoke to the Mueller investigation about this I told them that I assumed he was a Russian but I thought he was an American citizen. As it turned out the Mueller investigation already knew that he was a Russian citizen and not an American citizen. That really set off alarm bells for me. Because when I disclosed this to the Mueller investigation unprompted they knew more about it than I did. They knew he was a Russian citizen not an American.

GOP Lawmakers Demand Horowitz Identify Names of Anti-Trump FBI Employees in IG Report The Gateway Pundit

On Monday, a group of GOP lawmakers, led by Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) sent a letter to Inspector General Horowitz demanding he release the names of the FBI employees named in the IG report.

GOP lawmakers sent a letter to Inspector General Horowitz demanding transparency and accountability.

Rep. Biggs brought up the Trump-hating FBI attorney 2 who messaged about the resistance.

For example, one FBI attorney texted viva le resistance when asked about his commitment to the incoming Trump administration in November 2016.

As representatives of the American people, Congress deserves to know exactly who contributed to the abuse of power at the Department of Justice (DOJ) and FBI. These individuals need to be held accountable and only transparency will ensure that action, the letter reads.

FBI employees were simply referred to as FBI attorney 2, or FBI employee. (example below)

Horowitz referred five unnamed FBI employees for investigation after more anti-Trump text messages surfaced.

We want names!

The letter is signed by Reps. Andy Biggs (R-AZ); Dave Brat (R-VA); Scott DesJarlais, (R-TN); Matt Gaetz (R-FL); Paul Gosar (R-AZ); Jody Hice, (R-GA) Jim Jordan, (R-OH); and Ralph Norman, (R-SC).

BUSTED: Former Israeli Energy Minister Caught Spying for Iran The Gateway Pundit

Gonen Segev has long been known as a Israeli public servant who went astray of the law. Following a stint as a military pilot in the Israeli Air Force in the 1970s, Zegev became a doctor before being elected to the Knesset in 1992 as part of the now defunct Tzomet Party. In April 2004, after leaving Israeli politics to focus on his business career, Segev was arrested for attempting to smuggle tens of thousands of ecstasy tablets from Amsterdam to Tel Aviv, disguised as M&Ms. On Monday, Israels elite counter-intelligence force, Shin Bet, arrested Segev for spying on behalf of Iran.

As the Jerusalem Post first reported, the indictment for suspicion of assisting the enemy in a time of war was entered against Segev in the Jerusalem District Prosecutors Office on June 15. After being first entered under seal, the indictment was approved by the Attorney General and State Attorney almost immediately. The indictment alleges that Segev provided sensitive and classified information related to Israels energy infrastructure to his Iranian handlers.

According to the Shin Bet investigation, Israeli authorities first became suspicious of Gonen Segev in 2012 when he made an unusual visit to the Iranian Embassy in Abuja, Nigeria. According to Israeli intelligence officials, Segev knew the people who invited him to the embassy to be Iranian intelligence operatives. On the dimly lit Udi Street Embassy, Segevs initial meeting with his new Iranian handlers lasted late into the night. Due to the suspicious nature of his meeting, Shin Bet immediately started a case file and sought the resources of Israels signal intelligence specialists in Unit 8200.

In hotels, bars and sporting events in the 5 years following his initial 2012 meeting, Segev passed information to his Iranian handlers. Segev maintained his ties to unwitting members of Israels security and energy apparatus, and used them as sources for the information he eventually passed to Iran.

Gonen Segevs attorneys Eli Zohar and Moshe Mazor said in a statement: Most of the details are confidential at the request of the state. Even at this early stage, it is possible to say that the publication that was permitted makes things even more difficult, even though from the indictment, whose full details remain confidential, a different picture emerges.

Segev requested a pardon from Israeli Health Minister Yaacov Litz...

What Happens If Alexandria Ocasio Doesn't Replace Crowley In November DownWithTyranny!

I often write that Joe Crowley-- handpicked by Pelosi and Hoyer to take over the House Democrats after they leave-- is the single most corrupt Democrat in Congress. Over the weekend I got a call from a friendly Democrat in Congress who asked me on what basis I keep making that claim. She told me she intends to vote for Crowley to lead the Democrats but was disturbed by the persistence of my assertions about him. I sent her the link above. She called back this morning and said my assertions in those posts were disturbing but they weren't enough for her to change her intentions.

Neither did a discussion we had about how Wall Street and the whole financial sector had given Crowley more money-- bribes-- than any other Democrat in the House, $7,148,700 at this point, even more than Hoyer ($6,432,164) and Himes ($6,115,602), both notorious Wall Street whores.

But what did seem to stop her in her tracks was an old story-- from before she was elected to Congress-- I found from the New York Daily News. I have a feeling very few of the freshmen and sophomores in Congress know anything about this-- nor about how Pelosi had to make a deal with the Republicans getting Crowley off the hook... by agreeing to let FOUR Republicans off the hook with the House Ethics Committee! Benjamin Lesser's 8 year old article, Queens Congressman Joe Crowley's campaign funds under investigation in ethics probe should be required reading for every Democrat before voting for their next congressional leader. It isn't a chapter Crowley is comfortable discussing.
Queens Congressman Joe Crowley is one of the most prolific campaign fund-raisers on Capitol Hill-- a trait that now has him in the middle of an ongoing ethics investigation.

Crooked Hillary Cites Bible Verse to Fight Against Trumps Cruel Immigration Policy Twitter Responds The Gateway Pundit

Hillary Clinton, one of the most corrupt, criminal liars to ever hold public office in this country had the nerve to cite a Bible verse to fight against current immigration laws that separate illegal alien children from parents at the border.

All told the situation on the border is extremely nuanced right now and rampant for fraudulent asylum claims. Authorities see clear evidence of illegals being coached by traffickers on how to circumvent US law, continued Enjeti.

President Trump blasted the Democrats over immigration laws in a barrage of tweets:

ONCE AGAIN, IT'S REPUBLICANS WHO ARE OUT OF STEP WITH THE REST OF AMERICA No More Mister Nice Blog

CNN:

Two-thirds of Americans disapprove of the Trump administration's practice of taking undocumented immigrant children from their families and putting them in government facilities on US borders, according to a CNN poll conducted by SSRS. Only 28% approve.

But among Republicans, there is majority support for the policy....
Quinnipiac:
American voters oppose 66 - 27 percent the policy of separating children and parents when families illegally cross the border into America, according to a Quinnipiac University National Poll released today.

Republican voters support the separation policy 55 - 35 percent, the only listed party, gender, education, age or racial group to support it....
I say this all the time: America is not primarily a conservative heartland that's besieged by a left-leaning minority living on the coasts and using elite status to tyrannize the majority. The major fault line in this country is between Republicans and everyone else in America. I'm not saying that this is a liberal country (although it is on a number of issues), but it is not a conservative country. Republican dominance of our government at the federal and state levels is largely an artifact of electoral gamesmanship and a highly effective conservative propaganda machine that successfully demonizes Democrats; it doesn't reflect majority support for Republican policies. The GOP takes advantage of splits among the rest of us -- conservative/moderate, Democrat/independent, voter/non-voter -- to maintain control of America. The GOP also guilt-trips the media into believing that heartland whites are the only true Americans. But Republicans are the outliers.

Grassley Demands Probe Into Comeys Use of Secret Gmail Account For FBI Business The Gateway Pundit

Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA) sent a letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray on Monday demanding access to James Comeys private Gmail account he used for official FBI business.

The FBI has until June 29th to response to Grassleys letter.

Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA)

According to the IG report released last Thursday, then-FBI Director James Comey used a secret Gmail account when conducting FBI business, despite warning other agents they would be in huge trouble if they did the same thing.

Comeys frequent use of a personal email account for unclassified FBI business was inconsistent with the policy statement for email use by the Justice Department, according to a report issued by the Office of the Inspector General.

The findings were published on page 425 of the report.

The IG report identified FIVE different instances where Comey used a Gmail account to conduct official FBI business, CNBC reported.

Senator Grassley said Comeys use of a private email account raises some serious questions, being that the bureau was investigating Hillary Clinton for the same misconduct:

the former Director, appear to have engaged in strikingly similar conduct. Although it does not

Group Of U.S. Elected Officials Renews Efforts To Challenge Pentagon As War Intensifies In Yemen Shadowproof

While a Saudi Arabia coalition enabled by the United States military bombs the city of Hodeida, Yemen, which is the main entry for shipments of food, senators demand the Pentagon end its secrecy around the scope of involvement by U.S. forces.

The New York Times reported in May that a team of about a dozen Green Berets are helping to locate and destroy caches of ballistic missiles and launch sites that Houthi rebels are using to attack Riyadh and other Saudi citiesa revelation that contradicts Pentagon claims that U.S. military assistance is limited to aircraft refueling, logistics, and general intelligence sharing.

Senators Mike Lee (R-UT) and Bernie Sanders (I-VT) wrote in a letter to Defense Secretary James Mattis, We are concerned that in the midst of a Senate effort to exercise its constitutional authority to end unauthorized hostilitiesincluding U.S. targeting and refueling assistance for Saudi-led airstrikes against Yemens Houthisthe Pentagon may have concealed key information from members of Congress regarding the full extent of on-the-ground U.S. military participation in the Saudi coalition-led war.

We call on you to immediately disclose the full extent of the U.S. military role in the Saudi-led war against Yemens Houthis, including the use of special operations forces; disclose any role that the Pentagon is currently performing, has been asked to perform, or is considering performing regarding an attack on the port of Hodeida; and issue a public declaration opposing this impending assault and restating the administrations position that Saudi Arabia and other parties to the conflict should accept an immediate ceasefire and move toward a political settlement to resolve the conflict.

The letter, sent on June 15, came two days after an offensive on Hodeida was launched. It was widely condemned as an assault on one of the last remaining lifelines for Yemenis already suffering from one of the worst famines in the world.

Similarly, U.S. Representatives Mark Pocan (D-WI), Justin Amash (R-MI), Ro Khanna (D-CA), Thomas Massie (R-KY), Barbara Lee (D-CA), Walter Jones (R-NC), and Ted Lieu (D-CA) sent a nearly identical letter on June 13 that urged Mattis to stop the coalitions assault on Hodeida.

There's Working Class Solidarity-- And There's Also Betrayal DownWithTyranny!

Working class candidates often point to their roots when they talk about why they can be trusted to represent the interests of working families. The best examples this cycle have been Randy Bryce (D-WI), Kaniela Ing (D-HI), Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), Jared Golden (D-ME), Tom Guild (D-OK) and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY). Class has been integral to all of their campaigns-- both as  motivationally and in terms of goals. Mueller, Comey and Rosenstein all have obvious conflicts of interest, further tainting the Special Counsel investigation.

The Inspector General report released last Thursday revealed FBI Special Agent Peter Strzok, under Comeys Directorship, had it out for Trump.

The Trump-hating FBI agent sent his mistress Lisa Page a text message saying well stop Trump from becoming President.

I want to believe the path you threw out for consideration in Andys officethat theres no way [Trump] gets electedbut Im afraid we cant take that risk, Strzok text messaged to Page in an Aug. 15, 2016 exchange, referring to Andrew McCabe.

Its like an insurance policy in the unlikely event you die before youre 40, Strzok added.

Other profanity-laced text messages between Strzok and Page showed their contempt for Donald Trump.

Trump Administration Secretly Closed Program Helping Refugee Children [News - AllGov]

By Helen Christophi, Courthouse News Service

SAN FRANCISCO (CN) A group of Central American immigrants has filed a class action lawsuit (pdf) against the Trump administration over the secret termination of a refugee program that gave children fleeing violence in the region a path to reunification with their parents in the United States.

The plaintiffs, Central American immigrants legally residing in the United States and their minor children living in Central America, say racism against Latinos motivated the administrations 2017 decision to terminate the Central American Minors (CAM) program.

The June 13 complaint claims the administration shut down the program just days after Trump entered office in January 2017, but didnt announce the termination until August of that year.

The plaintiffs say the new administration immediately stopped interviewing program beneficiaries and froze their applications; stopped issuing decisions to applicants who were likely candidates for parole; and stopped scheduling the medical exams required for parolees to travel to the United States all in secret.

Nonetheless, the administration continued to accept money from applicants, including $100 or more for medical exams and $1,400 for each childs plane ticket to the United States, the class representatives say.

The money hasnt been returned, despite the revocation of the plaintiffs conditional approval to travel to the United States, according to Daniel Asimow, who represents the class.

These are thousands of families that expected their children would be reunified with them, kids in grave danger in the Northern Triangle countries, Asimow said by phone. To be told your child is approved for legal travel, that authorization is forthcoming, and to have the government go silent is devastating for these families.

MoveOn Endorses Democratic Primary Challenger to the Potential Next Speaker of the House The Intercept

The largest online progressive organization in the United States is breaking with House Democratic leadership and endorsing a primary challenge to Rep. Joe Crowley of New York, who is regularly floated as the next potential speaker of the House.

The endorsement of challenger Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, whos running to represent the 14th District covering parts of the Bronx and Queens, gives a significant lift to her long-shot campaign in its final days, as Crowley has been blanketing the airwaves with television ads. The endorsement, regardless of its impact on the race, is extraordinarily damaging to Crowleys hopes for leading the Democratic Party in the House once Rep. Nancy Pelosi of California steps aside.

Crowley has been positioning himself for a run as a liberal alternative to Pelosis longtime No. 2, Steny Hoyer of Maryland. But he had done so relying on an outdated frame of what constituted progressive politics, raking in Wall Street cash and generally marrying corporate-friendly politics with liberal approaches to marriage equality, environmental protection, and reproductive freedom. The race against Ocasio-Cortez has also brought an unhelpful spotlight on the inner workings of Crowleys Queens machine, which runs a foreclosure mill, reaps profits from families who die without wills, and enriches Crowleys friends and relatives.

The blow from MoveOn comes within a week of another setback from the left. After Crowley solicited an endorsement from Rep. Ro Khanna, a progressive freshman from Silicon Valley, Khanna faced a firestorm of protest. He quickly backtracked, announcing a dual endorsement of both Crowley and Ocasio-Cortez, effectively nullifying his initial nod.

HARVARD PAYS SALENA ZITO TO DECEIVE STUDENTS No More Mister Nice Blog

Salena Zito has made a nice life for herself purporting to be the person who can explain Trump voters to so-called out-of-touch elitists. We learn from a New York Post column she published over the weekend that she's guilt-tripped Harvard into letting her run a program along these lines:

We were only a few days into a new course I had developed with Harvards Institute of Politics, called the Main Street Project, where students are immersed in small-town America. Even though these kids had almost all been raised in the United States, our journey sometimes felt like an anthropology course, as though they were seeing the rest of the country for the first time.
The first stop on this "journey" for Zito and her kids was Chicopee, Massachusetts, where she played tour guide:
On a blustery afternoon in April, I filed into a van along with 10 students from Harvard. We had just spent the last two days in Chicopee, Mass., where we had chatted with the police chief and his force, the mayor and his staff, small-business owners, waitresses and firemen about their struggles living in small-town America.

The undergrads were buzzing with their impressions. Chicopee is about 90 miles west of their prestigious university in Cambridge, but when it comes to shared experience, it might as well have been 1,000 light years away.

As they settled in, I looked at them.

So, I said, who do you think most of the people you just got to know voted for president?

None of the students had an answer. It hadnt come up in their conversations and they didnt know I had privately asked each person whom theyd voted for.

So I let a minute pass and told them.

Nearly every one of them voted for Trump.

My students at first looked stunned. But then recognition crossed their faces.
Do you know how Chicopee actually voted in 2016? Here are the numbers:
Hillary Clinton 12,332 (52.1%)
Donald Trump 9,837 (41.5%)
Gary Johnson 1,046 (4.4%)
Jill Stein 472 (2%)
Clinton beat Trump by double digits in Chicopee, and 58.5% of its voters voted against Trump. So either Zito is lying about the people she introduced to her students or she chose an unrepresentative sample of Chicopee's population. (The latter is probably correct. Cops? Firefighters? Small business owners? The Republican mayor? That's not a real cross-section of the town -- it's a cross-section of the town's authority figures, but not of the town as a whole.)

Zito lives by some peculiar rules:
I have been a national political journalis...

Leaked State Department Memo Advised Trump Administration to Push for Islamic Reformation The Intercept

The Trump administration, as part of a dual effort to counter both Iran and the Islamic State, should push for an Islamic Reformation, a State Department memo advised the White House last year.

The suggestion was ultimately not adopted as part of the National Security Strategy announced in December, but that a so-called reformation of Islam was up for discussion at the highest levels of the State Department and National Security Council underscores the extraordinary rise of a once-fringe, far-right approach to foreign policy. Were it to be adopted as official policy, it would mark a radical departure by directly inserting the U.S. government into a theological discussion that is carried out almost exclusively among anti-Muslim zealots.

The goal against Iran and ISIS is to break eachs brand and Islamic extremism, reads the document, which was obtained by The Intercept. In seeking a public diplomacy means for undermining the ideological basis for supporting the current Iranian or ISIS structures, an emphasis on Islamic Reformation should factor in heavily.

The document, on the subject of ideological competition, was submitted to the White House National Security Council by the State Department Policy Planning Staff in the summer of 2017 a period in which the NSC was drafting the Trump administrations National Security Strategy. The State Department at the time was helmed by Rex Tillerson, who distanced himself from President Donald Trumps anti-Islam rhetoric. Mike Pompeo assumed leadership in April, and his track record as an anti-Muslim ideologue has many worried about the State Departments approach to Islam.

A State Department official confirmed the authenticity of the memo and told The Intercept that the paper was one of dozens of documents that helped inform the framing of the National Security Strategy. As with all pre-decisional documents designed to stimulate discussion, a healthy dose of skepticism is appropriate as to how much of a single thought or phrase from the document survived debate and discussion, the official wrote. Islamic Reformation is a phrase that has been used and debated by analysts of Muslim world for decades, and was used in the article as an histo...

What if Organized Crime Runs the World? bensozia

It's a question I ask myself every once in a while: how influential is organized crime? Can it bring about the fall of governments in places like Italy or Mexico? I read once that parts of the World Trade Organization charter had been modified to benefit organized crime; is that plausible? And so on. So I read with interest this interview with Alex Perry, author of a recent book about the Ndrangheta (Calabrian Mafia):

Theres obviously a lot of chaos in Italy right now with the government. And theres been a lot of chaos in Italy politically for a very, very long time. For much of the postwar era, I mean. To what degree do you attribute the Italian states inability to really get a handle on organized crime to that general political chaos?

There are two dynamics there. The mob thrives on chaos. It likes chaos. It likes to be the alternative authority that you go to because you cant get anything done through the legitimate state. For that very reason, I think theres no doubt that it promotes that chaos. It likes civic distrust. It likes cynicism. It can profit from that. I think the great tragedy of Italy is that, to a large extent, its kind of succeeded. It plays on the divide between north and south Italy. It plays on the idea that Italy has never really coalesced as a single unit but is terribly regional and terribly factional. And at the heart of that is a hole at the heart of Italy, where there should be a center and established certainty and facts. Theres a vacuum.

Theres a famous bomb attack, for instance, in Rome in 1971. To this day, nobody knows who did that, and there are both fascists and communists serving time for the same bomb attack. Thats the real tragedy of Italy. Nobody knows whats true. And in that environment of distrust, the mob thrives, because you cant really point at them and say with certainty, That guys a criminal. Because hes pretending to be something else and everybodys pretending to be something else, and therefore nobodys to be trusted. In that kind of atmosphere, where its difficult to distinguish right and wrong, wrong can thrive. And wrong can paint itself as the righteous champions of southern resistance to northern domination.

The whole thing about the mafia is its a massive lie. There is no honor to the men of honor. Theres no righteousness. They dont care about the rights of southerners. They dont care about the economy. They are parasites. They are predators, but theyve managed to create this myth around themselves of, as I say, men of honor. Its that uncertainty in Italy that allows them to persist.

Fetishizing Identity Politics Could Cost Democrats in 2020 The Intercept

The 2016 Bernie Sanders campaign terraformed the landscape of political possibility: Socialist is no longer a slur, Medicare for All is a litmus test for 2020 hopefuls, and Americans are no longer so inured to the influence of money in politics. To millions on the left, the then-relatively unknown Vermont senators unexpected surge in the 2016 Democratic primary (and consistently strong approval ratings) demonstrate that electoral victory in 2020 requires adopting much of his platform and approach to politics. This means, among other things, making economic inequality central to any prospective presidential agenda.

Yet the very concept of economic anxiety has become a punchline at best, and a third rail at worst, among a loud swath of the Democratic coalition. Because economic concerns have, at times, been used as a pretext to avoid recognizing the role racism and xenophobia played in Donald Trumps popularity, many Democrats now bristle at the notion that the Democratic Party should reach out to working-class whites at all. Understandably fearful that wooing white voters might require an appeal to bigotry, its now commonly argued that the Democratic Party should concentrate its efforts on nonvoters of color instead.

The divide between team economic justice and team demographic destiny now informs how different factions of the left, broadly defined, decipher the results of Democratic primaries and special election battles. And unfortunately, this has led to dangerously inaccurate and biased prescriptions for 2020.

Nonwhite and/or female candidates are praised for advancing identity politics if they win regardless of how they campaigned. And efforts to include white voters in ones coalition are blamed for faltering campaigns regardless of a candidates more substantive failures. If all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail. And with a belief that demographics hold the key to unlocking a Democratic victory, Democrats stand poised to ignore the most important lesson of 2016: People turn out for material change.

Last month, The Nation columnist Steve Phillips ...

This comes a week after De Niro was given a standing ovation from east coast elites for screaming, F*ck Trump! at the Tony Awards.

The rogue demonstrator unfurled a Keep America Great banner during the curtain call of A Bronx Tale, directed by De Niro, at the Longacre Theatre in New York on Saturday.

The US President and De Niro have been involved in a public spat since the 74-year-old Hollywood actor received a standing ovation for yelling F*** Trump on stage at the Tony Awards in New York earlier this month.

MUST READ: Muellers Bumbling and Hysterical Special Counsel Team Is Getting Pummeled in Court Media Is Ignoring All of This The Gateway Pundit

Guest post by Joe Hoft

The attorneys representing Concord Management, one of the Russian Companies that the corrupt Mueller team accused of impacting the 2016 Presidential election, crushed the Unlawfully Appointed Special Counsel in court last week again.

They continue to make a laughing stock out of the Mueller team of misfit and conflicted attorneys.

Muellers team of ignorant and misguided attorneys really have no chance.  They never expected anyone to take them to court on their fake Russian indictments and are certainly no match for the attorneys representing Concord Management.

Proverbial Ham Sandwich

We first reported that Concord Managements lawyers previously said Mueller indicted the proverbial ham sandwich.  The reason the Concord Management attorneys called the case a proverbial ham sandwich was because one of the entities indicted by the Mueller team, Concord Catering, was not in existence at the time the crimes were alleged to have taken place.
Next we reported on May 18th that the Mueller case against the Russians was falling apart.  Lawyers defending the Russian company Concord Management indicted by the corrupt Mueller team again called out Muellers liberal hacks and labeled their allegations as made up nonsense.  Concord Managements lawyers revealed that Muellers team ignored over 70 discovery requests they had made for information before the case.  In response Muellers team offered to give Concord Managements lawyers a massive amount of social media data from those dangerous trolls (jk) who sought to influence the US election and the majority of it was in RUSSIAN.  Muellers lawyers then admitted they dont even have English translations for the Russian social media posts. ...

TRUMP WILL NEVER BE A POPULAR PRESIDENT, BECAUSE FIGHTING IS A COMPULSION No More Mister Nice Blog

I'm so old I remember the Trump-Kim summit in Singapore -- oh, wait, that was a week ago. It was one of the rare moments in the Trump presidency that seemed at all unifying. Here are some results from a Monmouth University poll released last Thursday:

Opinion of the presidents job performance may have been helped by the talks with the North Korean leader. Trumps overall rating currently stands at 43% approve and 46% disapprove. The last time Trumps disapproval rating was less than 50% in Monmouths polling was last September....

Most Americans (71%) say that the recent meeting between Trump and Kim was a good idea, including 93% of Republicans, 74% of independents, and 49% of Democrats. Only 20% say it was a bad idea....

Just under half of the public (46%) says the meeting made Trump look stronger on the world stage compared with only 13% who say it made him look weaker....

Half of the public (51%) say it is likely that this meeting will help reduce the nuclear threat posed by North Korea....
These numbers aren't spectacular, but if you're a president who's struggling in the polls, why wouldn't you want to build on an event that not only thrilled your base but was overwhelmingly popular among independents and viewed favorably by nearly half of Democrats?

Within days, however, Trump was obsessing over the report by the Justice Department's inspector general, claiming it exonerated him in the Russia investigation even though that wasn't the report's subject. He attacked the FBI. His loudest surrogate called for an FBI agent to be sent to prison.

And now, when the separation of migrant families at the border is the biggest story in America, the president seems determined not to alter the policy, retaining it as a bargaining chip so he can have his border wall. This is standard-issue Trump heartlessness, and of course it plays well with the base, although not as well as you'd expect -- 46% of Republicans approve of the policy while 33% disapprove, according to an Ipsos/Daily Beast poll -- but it's divisive (overall approval is 27%, as opposed to 56% disapproval).

The policy is bad politics. Republican lawmakers recognize that, according to some reports.

But this is Trump's style. If you think he'll ever abandon divisiveness and make an effort to emphasize broadly popular policies like infrastructure, forget it. Trump likes to brawl, and years of binge-watching Fox News have taught him how to b...

At Friday night's debate Alexandria Ocasio forced him into, Congressman Joe Crowley was completely out of his depth. When he promised this constituents "good paying jobs... affordable healthcare, theyre hoping that they can send their children to college and get a higher education... retirement security," it was only natural to wonder what he's been doing for the past 31 years since he's been in office. The district includes Steinway, Woodside, Jackson Heights, Corona, East Elmhurst, College Point and Malba in Queens and Throggs Neck, Parkchester, Morris Park, Pelham, Baychester and Middletown, City Island and Eastchester Bay in The Bronx. The Democratic machine boss of Queens, a few years ago Crowley hired a lobbyist to get The Bronx out of his district-- too many people of color. The lobbyist failed and now Crowley's worst nightmare is coming true: a primary challenge from a young Hispanic woman who is forcing him to defend a record that has nothing to do with his own district, just his own careerism.

Briahna Gray reported on the debate for The Intercept. She painted it-- accurately-- as a contest between "establishment and outsider, old guard and upstart, experience and progress, status quo and change." Crowley had his lunch eaten. His "first remarks were those of a professional who felt confident enough to not prepare-- and who realized too late that he should have." He spent the whole debate babbling about fighting Trump, which he hasn't been very successful in doing for the last year and a half. Ocasio scored when she told him that "Its not enough to fight Trump. We have to fight the issues that...

More on Immigration and the World Cup bensozia

Besides all the children of immigrants who play for European teams, there area also about fifty players in the World Cup who were born in Europe but play for the teams where their parents were born. Thirty-four players for other countries were born in France: 13 play for Morocco, 12 for Senegal, 7 for Tunisia and 2 for Portugal. The Africans at least probably grew up in the same rough Paris suburbs that produced so many French national players. Meanwhile two people born in England play for Nigeria and two born in Belgium play for Morocco. Of Morocco's 23 players, 17 were born in Europe.

One long-term result of recent immigration may be a strengthening of these old colonial ties, as people who have moved back and forth keep up business relationships and friendships.

Georgias Leading GOP Candidate for Governor Is on an Anti-Sanctuary Crusade The Intercept

In the days leading up to Georgias gubernatorial primary last month, one of the candidates, state Sen. Michael Williams, made national headlines for a deportation bus that cruised around with the phrase FOLLOW ME TO MEXICO painted on the back. The publicity stunt proved to be an epic flop Williams barely got 5 percent of the vote.

Another candidate, Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp, garnered less national attention with a slightly smaller racist vehicular gimmick. In a campaign ad, he boasted about having a big truck to round up some criminal illegals. Kemp came in second in the primary election and advanced to the July 24 runoff.

But both Kemp and Williams were bested by an even more impressive propagandist: Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle boasted his own gimmick call it a deportation board.

Since October, Cagle, who will almost certainly be the next occupant of a governors mansion that the Cook Political Report rates as Solidly Republican, has been on a crusade against the city of Decatur, weaponizing a once-obscure Immigration Enforcement Review Board to battle the city for being a sanctuary in violation of Georgia law. Hes made his fight with Decatur central to his campaign for governor. But its more than just a ploy to score political points: His complaint appears likely to be successful in front of the stacked board, which means Decatur risks losing state funding for a policy that city officials and observers are adamant comports with state law.

The showdown between Cagle and Decatur has its origins in the start of Donald Trumps presidency. When Trump began his crackdown against immigrant communities, activists in Georgia launched a counteroffensive, encouraging local governments to end police entanglement with federal immigration officials. In Decatur a small, progressive enclave just northeast of Atlanta meetings with city officials and appearances before the city commission culminated in a September 29, 2017, policy against arresting, detaining, or transporting anyone based solely on a detainer request from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

City officials say they merely codified what had long been an unwritten rule....

Portland Gives $96,000 Blacks-Only Grant To Hip Hop Marijuana Shop The Gateway Pundit

In an effort to combat racial stereotypes, the government is giving welfare to black folks for drugs and rap music. No, its not a Dave Chappelle skit, its real. In the above picture, congressman Earl Blumenauer and Portland mayor Ted Wheeler celebrate the opening of Green Hop with owners Nicole Kennedy and Karanja Crews. The marijuana dispensary was started with a $96,000 Portland Opportunities Industrial Center grant, specifically designed for black folks.

Portland Tribune reports:

Local officials and statewide dignitaries hailed the opening of a new marijuana dispensary in North Portland as a welcomed step for African Americans too often locked out of economic opportunities.

This is more than a store. Its a representation of equity, said Karanja Crews, co-owner of the Green Hop pot shop located at 5515 N.E. 16th Avenue, during a ribbon cutting ceremony on Saturday, June 16.

Saturday marked what would have been the 47th birthday of the late rapper Tupac Shakur an appropriate date for an event billed as opening of the worlds first hip hop dispensary. The space is festooned with vinyl records by 2Pac as well as Nas, Wu-Tang Clan and A Tribe Called Quest.

Freshly coated in green paint and yellow trim, the two-story craftsman home in the Vernon neighborhood has been restyled with signs promising 420 deals and an apparent Garden of Weeden inside the storefront just a half-block from Northeast Killingsworth Street.

Many politicians praised the entrepreneurial spirit of Green Hops two young African American co-founders, Crews and nurse and teacher Nicole Kennedy, for fighting against the current of gentrification and racial discrimination.
